Malky going for youth

Thu Jun 27, 2013 7:13 pm

Cornelius and possibly Ince (gone a bit quiet on him ?) and Wanyama all very young.

All not included in the squad numbers - clever move.

Also all players who are young enough to be assets for the future.

Gotta love malky.

A bloke told me in work today we had signed a player but looked puzzled as he hadn't heard of him "cornelius or something like that" I was happy as f**k had an instant boner in my pants and couldn't remember that type of excitement since waiting for my first ever bj behind the shops at school age 13.

We are going in the right direction with Malky, building for the future. I look at hull for example and see short sightedness.

Not to mention our current midfield(with the exclusion of the elderly Whittingham(26)are all 22 and 23 years of age. Mutch, Kimbo and Gunnars all still youngsters. The resale value of the squad is rising daily

Football is evolving again.

When you need to reinvent the wheel and you know its a season when you could take a beating or 2, you want kids who you can impress on and make sure they follow you when its jan/feb and lost the last 3 etc.

Some older pros, normally don't like change, so question it, and don't commit to the new regime 100%.

Seems like malky doesn't want this, vry similar to lambert at villa. May not see results straight away, but when you stick to it, you see results in the end.

Brenda could be said to be rhe same, fergie did it when he brought through all the kids, gary nev says it in his book.

Souness tried it at liverpool, tried changing the diets and training, to many old pros questioned him and bad young signings didn't help him.

I personally think youth is the best way for us too. We aren't going to win anything this season or next realistically, so let's ground some kids in the prem and back malkys idiology to impress on the signings over the next few years.

Brave gamble imo by malky.

Going for young players with potential instead of proven top level quality. Lets be honest, how many on here had heard of our new striker before this week? Compere with someone like darren bent, who looks like going to one of our rivals for around the six mil mark. Bent is a proven international prem player who has scored close to 100 prem goals. However he has little resale value and would prob be on massive wages. Hence Malays dilemma, proven quality for the short term or potential for the long term.

If malky transfer targets are all around the under 22 age with little top level experience it could well backfire on him if we get off to a bad start. Brave by malky, but in my opinion the correct course to take for the future of the club.

Need to get the balance right. Even more so as we are new to the premier unlike the most of the managers mentioned above.

Kuyt just might be the reasoning behind all this. A bit of a gamble but could be worth taking.

Definitely agree. Have to have older experience around them, just not older guys here for a last payday, or huge wage.

I think kuyt would be neither, a good old pro, perfect compliment to the young guys. When fergie brought through the kids, he had old guys in robson, bruce, pallister, hughes, irwin and schmeichal still there. Arsen wenger done the same, bought the new age kids, who ate well and trained right, but managed to turn keown, romford pele, dixon and donkey adams from pub drinkers to yoga and new diets.

Malky needs the same kind. These are hard to find though as managers are reluctant to let them go, they normally just let the guys unwilling to compromise go.
