Cardiff City & the coup of the Summer so far

27th June 2013

Cardiff City just became a lot more likely to survive in the Premier League next season.

Sky Sports are reporting that the club have reached an agreement with FC Copenhagen for their 20 year-old man-child Andreas Cornelius.

The Danish Super Liga isn’t Europe’s premier testing ground, and nobody is pretending otherwise, but sometimes it’s very clear to see that a player is more than just a flat-track bully – hence, don’t just dismiss Cornelius’ 20 goals last season as the product of inferior defensive standards.

Cornelius turned-up in gossip columns sporadically last season, and in connection with some extremely high-profile clubs – and with good reason, he has the footballing ability, the physical presence, and the game-awareness to go very high in the game indeed.

A lot of clubs have monitored him, and Cardiff have been bold enough to pull the trigger before anybody else – and that is not a decision which they’ll regret.

There’s some video below; it doesn’t really do him justice, but it will give a fair idea of what kind of forward he is.

I can’t stress this enough: this is a huge addition.

and Andy Carroll cost £15m. Look at this guys aerial ability, ball control and pace in comparison to that donkey. Its sad to see how pathetic the British transfer market has become.

to counter balance though, you can put together a youtube clip of Carrolls good bits, and he would look better than he is, probably best not to judge someone too much from youtube.

Fair point but then would the difference from Youtube be £6.5m worth? Plus Carroll is on around £80k pw at WHU and was demanding £100k. Cornelius wont be on anywhere near that which only adds to the overall cost on Carroll's part.

If you put Carroll's best bits together his first touch wouldn't be as good, his passing and movement wouldn't be as good either. His aerial ability and shot power arguably would look better as hes been in the limelight longer and had time to prove himself and people pick up on this. I'd take Cornelius any day of the week. Carroll's lack of being able to control a ball properly is the reason he never had a chance at Liverpool.

oh dont get me wrong i agree with you, His (Carrolls) valuation is way more than it should be, not really his fault of course, but then his wage demands are silly.

I have hopes that this guy is going to do for us what Benteke did for Villa last season, though that might be wishful thinking somewhat.

At the moment however, a straight comparison between the two is what we have seen with Carroll, and what we have heard/read with Cornelius.

Him and Campbell up front for me would be a promising partnership, with Bellers and Ince on the wings i think we have the capability to score a lot of goals, we just need to stop them going in at the other end now ;) :ayatollah:
