Liverpool have lost out on the signature of former youth product Tom Ince to Cardiff City, who have reportedly convinced Blackpool to part with their star winger. Tom, son of former Liverpool and Manchester United star Paul Ince, scored 18 goals for the Tangerines last season and was widely tipped to re-join Liverpool in the January transfer window, but the Reds were unable to come to terms with Blackpool, as they attempted to snag a major discount on their buy back despite having only a percentage of future fee component in Ince’s contract.
Liverpool’s inability to spot talent when they had in their midst and their inability now to re-sign Ince when the youngster was available reeks of a systemic failure that exists at the club.
Liverpool splashed out millions on players like Stewart Downing, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson, and while their signings are a valuation failure on a business sense, their ability identification is an even bigger failure in the scouting department, something that was magnified by the club’s decision to let a player of the quality of Ince Junior leave.
It remains to be seen how their new signings Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto fare in the Premier League, but they aren’t no names in Spain for nothing.

If Liverpool wanted him, they would have got him
