CARDIFF City have been rebuffed in their attempts to hold transfer talks with Celtic’s Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama, as the EPL new boys are unable to match the Parkhead side’s valuation of the 22-year-old.
Celtic agreed a record transfer fee for Wanyama with Southampton, believed to be in the region of £12 million, but a potential move appeared to break down when the player could not agree personal terms.
Former Parkhead defender Malky Mackay was happy to match the highly-regarded midfielder’s wage demands, but Celtic insisted Southampton’s offer was closer to their valuation of the international.
Wanyama’s representative, Ivan Modia, told the Daily Mail Sport that it was ‘completely untrue’ that talks were being held with Southampton, adding: “They were made aware some weeks ago what the player was looking for.
“At that time, they were not prepared to meet that so, as far as we are concerned, discussions with Southampton ended some weeks ago”.
Wanyama has a host of potential suitors, having been linked with Arsenal, QPR and Fulham among others.

Ok lads I have merged the topics so people with nothing better to do than knit pick can stop
Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:55 pm
And his agent wants a million quid??
Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:57 pm
He has two agents and what he wants is £400k extra, as they will already get 5% of the transfer fee (£600k)
Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:06 pm
Seems more trouble than what its worth. Look elsewhere malky. That wanyama needs to grow a set of bollox and learn to make his own decisions instead of letting a pair of crocked agents who only care about themselves, run his career.
Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:14 pm
Time to move on. Greedy player and agents are not needed.
Let him go grovelling back to Southampton and accept their offer or stay stagnating in the Scottish League. A poor season there with no big CL games and his value will drop to £500K as he will be quickly forgotten down here.
Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:19 pm
Do what you want. I take all articles with a pinch of salt and would never jump on one to add it onto this forum. But I guess that where we differ. I don't believe football bullshit half the time.

His agents seem the type that would course us know end of trouble if he signed for us. The type who would put his name back out there after a few months with us, leaking stories that he's unsettled etc and wants a move, just so the greedy kunts can line there pockets from more transfer fees. They seem the type judging by the saga that's unfolding now. I hope they end up losing everything.

Ridiculous. Moaning over little money now. We are Premier League and need to realise sooner than later, if we wish to stay here, that its a money league. It may as well be called the Money League to be fair because that is the foundations its built upon.
Could bag a quality difference making signing here yet our inability to accept we must pay a premium for quality will cost us. Liverpool had the same issue. They either overspent on rubbish or refused to pay for quality. It hurt them. How will it not do the same to us? Wanyama is proven quality and 21 years of age and would only get better.
So his agent wants more money. Hardly surprising given the vulture type nature needed to become an agent in the first place. Its kind of expecting a traffic warden not to be an arse hole. We all know they are so why are we surprised? We should just pay it, tie him into a 4 year deal and make sure that if he has a good season and we need to sell him on we say 'hes a 22/23 year old, international, quality player, he was £12m at 21 years of age so we want £20m' if you want him.
He has sell on potential just like Ince which is what we need at the club. Young players who can be sold for profit to reinvest and help increase the overall quality of the squad. If we lose out on a quality player like this over what is regarded as a pittance in PL terms and we get relegated then the club only have themselves to blame to be fair.
If you want to be a big boy and play with the big boys then you better bring big money to the table. Swansea were fortunate as they have a manager with solid links and a reputation globally for what he achieved as a player. We are not so fortunate. Its time we appreciated that difference and this 'lets get ourselves a Michu' is a load of crap. The reason he was touted for signing of the season and won it for most was because pulling off such a brilliant deal is a rarity.

Athough I've never seen him play, I've spoken with a few Celtic fans recently who seem to think he's worth a lot more than what's being offered for him atm
Tue Jun 25, 2013 4:44 pm
Celtic fans are deluded to be fair. Hes worth £12m at most.
Celtic fans attitude to their players is 'There are some things money can't buy, there are some things even Mastercard cant buy....these things are our players'.
You ask any Celtic fan about one of their players and hes the next coming of Jesus Christ FFS.
Tue Jun 25, 2013 4:52 pm
Like I said I've not seen him play but, if the likes of Liverpool are interested then you would think he's half decent
Tue Jun 25, 2013 6:13 pm
Alright lads,
In a Celtic supporter and have been having a wee spy on your forum on your take of big Vic.
In not trying to be patronising but I really thought he would have signed for a top six team but if you sign this guy what a bit of business you've done. I honestly am baffled there's been no interest from arsenal as they need a bit of steel in the middle as Alex Song left. A great comparison between the two Song and Wanyama. Wanyama absolutely bossed the man at Celtic park and He cost £15 million near the end of his deal. Wanyamas double the player as just turned 22.
This guy will dominate the midfield, those hard games away against the teams round about you he will a leader in the middle - never hides.can spray a pass unlike in his earlier days where he couldnt pass five yards.
Honestly believe you will not make a loss on him. You will honestly on up in price, the only reason he is going for this price is due to our SPL Staus.
