CITY MAKE £10M BID

Sun Jun 23, 2013 10:28 pm

Cardiff City have made a £10million offer for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama after his move to Southampton stalled.

Wanyama has revealed his move to Southampton is off unless the club can agree terms with him and his agent.
Southampton have had a £12million bid accepted by Celtic but Cardiff have now made a counter offer and are understood to be prepared to match the 21-year-old's wage demands. Malky Mackay's side are now hoping they can win the player's signature.

Talking exclusively to Sportsmail, Wanyama said: 'My manager Neil Lennon told me of Southampton's offer but while the bid was okay for Celtic, the terms were not right for myself and my agent. I am open to what offers are made but I am relaxed and it's important Celtic are happy too.

'My agent and I have been together a very long time and we are like family. We have a very good relationship. He has helped me since I was a young man and there is a lot of trust between us. I know he will help me make the right decision over the next few weeks.

'This is a very important move for me if it happens. I've had two very important seasons at Celtic and I've had the opportunity to play in some very big games and with some talented players. My dream, like any young footballer, is to play in the Premier League and maybe that is the next step for me.

Liverpool, who confirmed the £7m signing of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo yesterday, and Newcastle are also watching developments. Wanyama added: 'It's important for me that a club shows ambition and that I can play an important part in those ambitions. At my age I want to play as much as I can. I want to play week in, week out.'
Celtic bought Wanyama for £900,000 from Belgian side Germinal Beerschot two years ago and the Kenya international has two years left on contract.

Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk have made a bid for Cardiff and Swansea target, Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis while Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan has confirmed he has received an approach from Southampton

I had a message earlier that a journalist from the Guardian was on the radio today saying Wanyama has met with Southampton and Cardiff and how impressed he is with Malky and the plans for us. I'm still expecting Liverpool or Everton to make a move, but if we pull this off it would be unbelievable

Same I fully expect liverpool to come in for him at some point. I dont think Everton would spend that money untill they have sold on players like Fellani or Baines

this potential signing, along with Ince would be fantastic, only slight problem for me is that we need at least three more players (centre back, right back, striker) and would have already spend 17m of our budget.

I think we could end up spending in excess of the supposed £25 million. :ayatollah:

Excellent player and would be an excellent signing if you can persuade him.

true of course.

i do worry about the amounts we are spending with the debts we have though, if the money Tan owes gets turned into shares at least we can all breathe easier.

Wanyama is far from a done deal.

Celtic defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama, 21, is being urged by agents to reject overtures from Southampton and move to Galatasaray or Fenerbahce because of the significantly lower rate of income tax paid in Turkey.

I have always thought that would be the case.

However, we are talking the headline figures I don't expect for a moment we are putting all £10m on the table at once.

thats the same as every transfer though. If we buy someone for 10m and only pay 5m up front, we still have to treat it as a 10m transfer.

Victor would be a fantastic signing for us if we could just pull it off?

watched the interview with sky sports and he seems like a very level headed guy with the right attitude for a Malky Team.

We live in hope ?????? :notworthy:

That's a good point but we all know the best players want to play in the Premiership before the Süper Lig. Not only that foreign imports never seem to last long in that league e.g. Kenny Miller.

Lets hope the negotiating team don't do a Southampton!

Don't see Liverpool coming in for him as they've got enough quality and Everton don't have a pot to piss in

Southampton still odds on at 10/11 where as Cardiff are 7/1 which is odd considering you have bid for him.

Never understand people looking at betting odds for transfers/ new managers etc.
Not having a go here, but bookies are in it to make money and thrive on gossip.

exactly, so if there was a deal close they wouldn't be giving away £7 for every £1 put on Cardiff then would they. they have connections in every press association going.

so your point is....... dont believe everything u read in the papers?.... or DO believe everything you hear from the bookies.
facts are we just dont know. what prob will happen is once the agent and player make they mind up they will tip the wink to a distant associate who will drop a couple grand on it. then the bookies will panic

My point is the bookies have great contacts, better contacts than the majority of things people look to for info. Football writers have papers to sell so have another motive for releasing inaccurate news stories. Bookies have a business to run. If the odds fall then there is probably a very good reason for them to fall, if they are high then there is also probably a very good reason for that too.

Yes odds can be manipulated by the weight of money going on a certain selection, but if its not accurate then it wont be low for long as that means the 'correct' selection will still be at high odds allowing it to be taken by people that ACTUALLY know something.
