A forum for all things Cardiff City

When Malky Mackay goes to Malaysia next week, he and David Kerslake will cast their eyes over a Malaysian player that Kevin Cooper has identified as a potential signing after he recently spent two weeks out there.
Could lead to the first Malaysian player signing for Cardiff City.

Wont be able to sign as Malaysia are not ranked high enough so he wont get a work permit
Sat Jun 22, 2013 7:33 pm
He won't find any Premier quality in Malaysia. I think this trip is a waste of time myself. If the team were going out as well, fair enough.

Could be wrong, family in europe and he may allready qualify for a permit.
But Malaysian talent ? Has anyone heard of such thing in football ? Commercial stunt if anything comes of it no doubt
Sat Jun 22, 2013 7:54 pm
Well since we have put money into academy stuff out there it would be tidy if some talent come from it, this signing is probably a youngster,no harm in taking an look at the player since malky is over there anyway. Chill out people sure we will sign a few soon and if malky was as worried about signings as much as some people on here i doubt he would be over there.
Sat Jun 22, 2013 7:56 pm
What is wrong with you lot!? He was already going over there. And cooper gas said theres a couple of players in the acdemy worth looking at. Doesnt mean they will sign IF they do it will be youth contracts anyway due to fa rules. Cheer up ffs!

it's a promotional trip, some people will always look at trips like this as a waste of time. It's all about small steps that will become giant leaps.
Some fans just have blurred vision.... It's a business
Remember we have youth academy's over there...Christ give it a rest

Thankfully Malaysian players are unable to play in the senior team, Not the best of footballers are they? FIFA world rankings speak for itself.

That's what I thought. If the player has any kind of right of residence in the EU then Malaysia's world won't matter.
Sat Jun 22, 2013 9:25 pm
Of course he isn't going to be considering Malaysian players for the first team, If we can put the foundations in the form of academies, who's to say we won't find some kid with a bit of potential.
Sat Jun 22, 2013 9:30 pm
One day a Malaysian player will be offered the opportunity to play in the EPL. I sincerely hope it is for Cardiff City after the support we have had from that country.
For the record I am against the re-brand and support the Keep Cardiff Blue campaign.
Some of the comments on this thread are really sad. Some of You really need to have a reality check.

No offence but Wales are shit and without a few decent players would be probably not far off San Marino truth be told.
If we can produce the likes of Bale, Bellamy and Giggs and so on why is a country, with a population 10 times the size of here unable to produce footballers?
Have you ever thought that they are going to look at 16-17 year olds they can nab up for cheap, grant permits under the 'exceptional talent' criteria and then put them in our academy to try and realise their potential? If it pays off its a win. If it doesn't its hardly a massive loss.
I dont see the issue here. We wont be paying a stupid sum for any player over there. It will be a pittance and trying to get a good player on the cheap that can be nurtured into something.
This wont be a player to go straight into the team and I think Malky knows that. He hardly played Velikonja so I think he knows what the grade is and whether players can make it or not. Barcelona did the same with Messi, took a relatively unknown but gifted in his own country talent from Argentina, provided him treatment and trained him up themselves.
All it takes is some time and effort, pick a couple of decent players who can be trained and who want to make it and have the right attitude and its worthwhile. I have faith in Malky anyway. Tan may be the one pulling the strings but if in 5 years we have a player like Park but Malaysian in the team we'll be buzzing plus it'll do wonders for our commercial ventures over there.

Cant come up with an argument so instead insults. Seems to be getting more common by the minute on this forum. No wonder Polo has decided to sod off with all these troll accounts popping up.
Time to go I think. Baked, PTB on this account please. I think Polo did the right thing going.
PS. Ian, bluebird1977, dont be crying for me to come back as I cant put up with these morons seriously. There really should be an IQ test for the internet.

Some of you lot need a good wank!
He's going out there to promote the club, is that such a crime?
Sun Jun 23, 2013 3:24 pm
One of the reasons VT bought the club to help promote football in Malaysia, people are drulling at the propect of signing Ince on other threads, where is the fee from that coming from???? VT!
He as asked Malky to come over for several days to ruffle the hair of young Malaysian footballers whilst pretending hes interested in them! Its not rocket science lads its a bit of return for VT......whinge on!

remember when wales were ranked below the faroe isles ?
wasnt too long ago was it.
talent can come from any country, its a case of identifying it early and nurturing it

Common sense has at last entered the building. Bale from a country of around £3m tipped for Madrid. Dwight Yorke from Trinidad and Tobago and they have a tiny population. As long as Malky says 'yes I think he has potential and in a few years we can make something out of him' than Tan saying 'take him because hes Malaysian' then all is well. The problems start when Malky comes back with about 5 Malaysians and none of them are anywhere near the level required to make the grade.
