Premier League duo battle for Celtic star Published on June 22nd, 2013 Written by: Olly Allen Cardiff City and Southampton are reportedly preparing bids to try and sign Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Sky Sports.
In demand
After superb season in the Scottish capital last season, the 21-year-old is expected to be competed for by at least three four teams this summer.
The latest two teams to declare their interest in him are Southampton and Premier League new boys Cardiff City after Stoke City, Newcastle United and Liverpool confirmed they were monitoring the Kenyan’s situation, the broadcaster claims.
Celtic signed him from Belgian side Beerschot for just £900,000 two years ago but are expected to gather at least £5million if he were to leave the Scottish champions.
Historic
Wanyama was part of the squad that surprised everyone in last season’s Champions League as they reached the knockout stages and the Kenya international himself scored in the club’s historic 2-1 win over Barcelona last November.
Cardiff are looking to add to squad their ahead of their first ever season in the Premier League as they try to avoid the drop back to the Championship.
Southampton will have worries of their own about a relegation battle, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side not wanting to become the latest victim of the infamous ‘second-season syndrome’.
The signing of youngster Wanyama would consolidate an already youthful Saints squad.

Wanyama has admitted that Saints are currently the only club to have a concrete offer accepted by Celtic, while also insisting that a deal is far from complete.
He is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "My club has agreed a deal with Southampton, but I will also have to consider terms before I become a Saint."
A quote in an article yesterday. Is Malky still in the race for this player? All it would need is better terms. Is he worth 10 million?

As you would expect from the press there is conflicting information flying about. You never know we could get him for five which sounds more realistic. We will just have to wait and see.
