Steve Tucker's Premier League predictions

IT will be suggested some mad form of optimism reigns as I calculate the Bluebirds will finish next season with 50 points... but hear me out.

Every prediction contains some degree of credibility and I believe Malky Mackay’s men make the step up to the Premier League with nothing to fear.

City have the nucleus of a good top-flight squad already and, with judicious signings, which we know from previous experience Mackay will supply, they could have a very good group indeed.

So here goes: expect the Bluebirds to catch the Hammers cold on the first day – Andy Carroll or no Andy Carroll.

There may be defeat to mighty Manchester City in the first home game, but I see a battling draw in the next one against Everton.

I expect fellow new boys Crystal Palace and Hull to be cannon fodder with both set for long and arduous campaigns.

The top seven, of course, will do their own battling, with any points taken off them regarded as a bonus.

But Cardiff will be hard to beat, so expect a couple of nice surprises there.

A draw at home to the Gunners perhaps in November? But it is in the real nitty-gritty games, against those whose first priority is also survival, where I reckon the Bluebirds will prosper.

Even in the top tier under Mackay, the Bluebirds will be regimented, disciplined and, as always, perfectly prepared.

To beat them you are going to need more class, which many teams will have, or simply want the points more. which many teams will not.

Points plundered from the likes of Fulham, Newcastle and Norwich early doors will be hard-earned, but priceless.

It will also move to settle any doubts and concerns over Cardiff’s ability to compete among the elite.

As for arch-rivals Swansea, I expect the Bluebirds to win the first South Wales derby in November amid the noise at the Cardiff City Stadium.

A draw at the Liberty Stadium in the return three months later would suit the Bluebirds just fine.

We know Mackay’s teams thrive around the festive season, so expect six massive points in two eminently winnable home games, against Southampton on Boxing Day and then versus Sunderland two days later.

Come the new year I expect Cardiff to have eased any relegation paranoia before strengthening in the January transfer window and kicking on.

There’s also points to be had near the end of the campaign too, apart from at home to Chelsea on the final day.

Who knows, perhaps Jose Mourinho’s Blues will win the title that day.

But even that wouldn’t detract from City enjoying a commendable first season in the Premier League.

Terry Phillips' Premier League predictions

THE key for Cardiff City in their bid for Premier League survival is how many times they can claw out draws when defeat is on the cards.

Trawling through the fixture list I can only see 10 wins for the Bluebirds – including a shock home success against Arsenal – and 13 draws.

That would provide City with a total of 43 points and enough for survival.

Football fantasy? One thing is guaranteed, however: on Malky Mackay’s watch City will be nothing if not competitive.

They will, man for man, be fitter than some and chase their objectives with tenacity and intensity.

Will it be enough will be the 64 million dollar question.

Cardiff’s unashamed aim is to finish outside the bottom three, targeting fellow new boys clubs Hull and Crystal Palace as well as the likes of West Brom, Aston Villa, Norwich, Fulham and Stoke, where Mark Hughes has a tough ask in following fellow Welshman Tony Pulis.

I predict City’s only double will come against Fulham – captain Mark Hudson’s first club.

But I expect the Bluebirds to pick up precious points against West Ham (4), Hull (4), Norwich (4), Villa (4), Palace (4), Arsenal (3), West Brom (3) and Southampton (3).

I can’t see beyond derby draws against Swansea with neither side have completed the league double in those passionate South Wales skirmishes.

The two teams might be in the Premier League now – but somethings never change.

Forget about picking up too many points against top guns Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Liverpool.

Those teams are too tough to crack – but Arsenal have a soft underbelly and will come a cropper in Cardiff.

Expect Cardiff to start slowly – two points from the first 15 on offer I reckon and only one win from the first 12 fixtures – but Mackay’s men will improve as they get used to the demands of top-flight football.

Eight points will come from four games in November and December as well as four wins in six games during January and February.

Back-to-back victories against Villa and Hull will steer City up the table, no doubt fired by the five or six summer signings I expect to arrive in the newxt few months.

That’s when we’ll know an awful lot more about City’s Premier League survival hopes – but it will be a case of in Malky we trust.

We have a good split of optimists and pessimists on this board, lets see how your predictions compare with Steve Tuckers and Terry Phillips efforts

They are deluding themselves to think we'll not lose to a side out of the top 7 until April 2014

Our ability to grind out results both home and away last season won't be do successful in The Premier League.

I hope they are right and were safe by Christmas -- but seriously, I'd love a puff of what they are smoking!

We'll be fine. We'll shock some with wins over big clubs, just wait and see. Swansea did it, Wolves did it, other clubs have done it yet they continue to write teams off. Let the idiots do it if it sells papers. Be a pessimist, be an optimist but the ones with brains will see results like below and know we can do it too. If anything, our team has as strong a work rate as any of them and can pressure them into draws and frustrate and grab goals. No issue at all with that. Norwich barely strengthened when they went up...where are they know?

Our biggest issue will be beating the sides around us and make sure the points picked up against top teams aren't a waste. Whats the point in a 1-0 win over United if you then go and get smashed 3-0 by other survival hopefuls?

January is a hard month but February is realistically a month where we can pick up plenty of points and push on. December is also a month we should be able to get quite a lot of points on the board.

Hate these predictions as they're nothing like what will happen. Football is a funny old game and even Manchester United can be beaten at home on their day.

This season will be a big test for us as fans. We're going into a league where you don't get a lot of wins outside of the top 6.

But, I suppose it makes the win celebrations a lot more emphatic when we get them!

I'll go for a 10 game win rate in our debut season, with 13 draws, and 15 losses.

43 points............but I'm hoping I can change my prediction when we get some key signings through the door!! :malky:

It's silly to predict where we will finish because we don't know what players we will be signing!
