Skinhead Reggae

Fri Jun 21, 2013 9:08 pm

There may be one or two of you who are into this.If you are not and if you want to hear the early hits give the following a try.

'Trojan Presents:Boss Reggae' on play.com at only £5.65 with free postage.
Absolute bargain reggae hits from 1968-1970 when it all started. Most of these are not on Youtube and are mostly not covered by the specials etc.
Many of the original discs go for big bucks.

Got all the Trojan stuff, rocksteady, ska, dub, dancehall, reggae, etc.

Being brought up on Ska got heavily into the whole history of Jamaican music. Even the extremely early music that it all came from is fantastic. To hear the beginnings of ska and reggae in Mento music is amazing.

Wayne,
what I like about the cd I have recommended is that a) it's 40 tunes and 2) I have not seen the majority of these on the various Trojan compilations that you can get these days. It's also the original skinhead stuff(and very good in the main) as opposed to what came later although it is obviously not comprehensive. Many of the best non Trojan e.g. Pama tunes can only be sourced on Youtube

Some great stuff on that album with many more lesser known artists. Usually always go back to the Trojan Presents: Rocksteady Album also 40 tracks but more known names like Lee Scratch Perry, The Wailers and Dekker but still great early stuff.

beautiful brother
I am lucky enough to have grown up with that music, so I already have most of those sounds. As should any original fans :-) we had plastics back then as well haha. They know who they are ;-)
No worries. Onwards and Upwards! Bluebirds!
