SEEM TO BE FORGETTING MAYNARD/CAMPBELL

Fri Jun 21, 2013 7:20 am

We all see mto be forgetting that we both maynard and campbell are gonna be like new players to us this year .We barely saw maynard who only lasted a few games and campbell played 6-7 before he was injured after joing us late ,with a good preseason under them it'll be like having 2 new players .

I don't think it's the case of forgetting about them but we do need a target man to compliment these 2 fabulous players

That's a good point and it will be interesting to see how they play together or separately in the PL.

However, as your post indicates both so far have proven injury prone so another couple of strikers wouldn't go amiss.

Yep thats all people seem to think about is strikers on here that will not solve the many defeats we will probly get this season if we dont have the players in defence, midfield, if a forward carnt get the ball he wont score so it dont matter whos up front or how big a name player he is :malky:

Ian, that is also very true

Both unproven at PL level so would be foolish of Malky not to get more options in.

both have pace though I think they will do a good job for us this year ,if both fit they can easily get goals for us and with whoever else comes in as well.

I disagree. everyone i talk to says the same that the so called smaller teams have GOT to have a feller who can turn the game up top. goals are vital cos your better off defending a 1-0 lead than a 0-0. We do need to be tight at the back obviously but without the goals to take a bit of the pressure off itl be a long hard season. Cambell especially up there tucking in just off a big strong fast player will score at least a dozen i reckon. he knows where the 6 yard box is and always seems to find space in the box.

I doubt very much Campbell will be up top with another striker.

We packed the midfield in the championship and I dont expect that to change against better teams in the premiership.

We can't count on Campbell, he's always injured. Not had a proper run of games injury free in a couple of years. He might be a quality player but the club might aswell pay us a few hundred quid a week instead of his wages if he's going to sit on the physio table for half a season.

Looked right as rain by the end of the season for us. 7 goals in 12 games. I think he'd be good slotted in just behind a target man. we need to score goals

Good when fit, but played 12 games out of 19 league games, so missed 33% of league games he was here for.

Since 10/11season he's played in 43 games in 3 seasons. Basically missed 2 seasons. People with injury records like that with cruiciate ligament injuries twice over generally don't go and play full seasons in there career again. So we can't really rely on him throughout a season.

We could sign Gerard pique and still lose games, so what is your point?

What is this myth that to stay up you need a proven Premier League striker, who was the last club to sign one immediately after promotion and gain a large amount of success from them, i.e more than 10 goals ? It seems to me that a lot of the proven strikers are ones that have been there done it and are on the decline looking for one last pay packet.
