Craig Bellamy has bought the freehold property known as the Philharmonic public house/club in St Mary Street Cardiff City Centre.
The cost is to be believed to be around £900,000. There are major structural problems,which is why its been closed for so long, which are estimated at £300,000.
Bellamy is believed to have bought the property to eventually open as a up market night club at an estimated cost of £500,000.

Used to enjoy going in the Philiharmonic.. Good to see it re opening.

A great venue at its peak and hope it doesn't become too sterile. One of its draws was its character and great atmosphere.

Hmmm City fans was never welcome there. Now they will be going up market that wont change then

Nice to hear the old place is getting a new lease of life. Although "upmarket clubs" ain't my thing, it was sad to see the place empty and wasting away

If he can keep it to £500,000 he will be doing well, costs nearly always go over. Good luck to him

Will it be anything like Monty's used to be? Great place frequented by the more upmarket Cardiffian back in the early eighties, no getting a glass over the swede or bar stool in Monty's, one night some herbert tried to whack me over the noggin with an empty beer keg!!

the philly was once a good night in Cardiff. Pool bar upstairs, pissed women all over the show, and Lloyds nightclub downstairs made for a big venue and cracking night. It always had big queues around 1988-1992, the amount of times i flew in the side door and up the stairs as the alarm went off and the bouncers came looking for us. Never got us though in years. The fine art of picking up any drink and just start talking to anyone like you had been there the whole time. good times
