Don't understand the hate here..

He was a fully committed pro who did well for CCFC and proved his doubters wrong after the apathy of his initial joining Cardiff.

He was a free agent that went to the premiership and had the ambition to try. He has been nothing but complimentary to Cardiff and it's fans since the move, despite the hate he got from some CCFC fans on twitter.

He's probably not good enough for us now, nor would he fit in at the club these days, but he was very important to us at one point.

Can't deny his talent and quality but he left at the first attempt, I'm not sure how he would have played under Malky if he did stay but with the right head we'd have done extremely better in 11/12. Wonder where he ends up now

Agree chuckles
Was watching extended highlights of the 09/10 and 10/11 seasons and bothroyd was very very good for us
Our failings to get promoted were due to our team ultimately not being good enough not just jay
I wish him well personally

Fair point, I think he could've stayed with us though, thought he was premier league after his England cap, maybe thats why people are bitter towards him.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

He didn't have to stay, though. He had no obligation to. His contract had ended.

It's his job & if you are offered the chance to do it at the highest level & "prove yourself" wouldn't you take it? Anyone with any sort of ambition would. Plus, he would be moving home. That was a big pull for him too.

He was lazy.. Maybe, but he also scored a lot of goals and assisted a lot too. There were games where Bothroyd was simply unplayable. The game he played when we beat Derby 6-1 at home, he was incredible.

There were also times where it seemed we wouldn't win wi though Jay, very similar to the situation with Hudson this year, he was that important to the squad.

Whilst I wouldn't want to sign him now, I've got nothing but respect for Bothroyd and his time at Cardiff City. :ayatollah:

His attitude wasn't for me but I can only but struggle to think of a better technical gifted centre forward we have had during my time supporting Cardiff City.

I've heard he's now heading for armitage shanks. They want him to be their chief bog tester. Spends more time on his arse than his feet. Should suit him :old:

Agree absolutely - Jay doesn't deserve this as he did very well for us during his time here.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

I agree with Barry and I don't think I will ever understand the disrespect Jay gets from some on this board. Whilst he was here there were times when he carried the fortunes of the team singlehandedly, like the playoff final, where a fit Jay I believe would have seen us win that game.

On the last day of the transfer window if Jay hasn't found a club then I would still take a chance with him because even today I'd rather see Jay on the bench than Rudy.

Hopefully MM will get the targets he wants but if not we could do a lot worse than Jay Bothroyd.

THIS
LOVED JAY AND HIS TIME AT CITY

HE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO LEAVE IF WE DIDNT GO UP ITS FOOTBALL

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Thu Jun 20, 2013 12:52 pm

Bothroyd was one of the reasons we was doing well in the Championship along with other players who was with us.

He scored goals and he was a class above this league in one season and he got a call up. If you get a call up then you see it as a chance to maybe get a career for your country and he had to leave and go bigger to get that.

Call him a money grabber yet if your going to join a better club your going to get more money.

I will always have respect for Bothroyd, he might have not shown his ability to his full potential but he gave it a try.

If he stayed under MM we could have challenged a lot more for the top 2 a lot more.

He scored some crackers and a lot of goals.

He might have been this supposed lazy player but in some games he was to hard to control for defenders.

Chuckles has knocked the nail on the head.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Thu Jun 20, 2013 12:57 pm

I agree with Chuckles during his time with us Jay performed very well most of the time and there were games where some of his performances were superb and as good as I have seen from any striker in a City shirt. Technically Jay was very good but could probably do with some toughening up and who knows how he would have performed under Malky because if he could add work rate to his undoubted talent he would be one hell of a player and definitely still do a job in the Championship for someone.

One thing to all the City fans having a pop at Jay were you one of the fans at Wembley who gave out a collective groan when Jay went off injured because that almost certainly cost us the Play Off Final :(

I wish Jay good luck where ever he ends up :old:

Crystal palace only PL team that will be interested.

Championship - Bournemouth. or Leeds

ATB Jay wherever you go

On his day, he was probably the best forward I've ever seen down the City.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

See how committed he was at Wemlley in play offs

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Overall Jay was a very very good player for us.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Surprised by that. 'Arry chose to play him in the last few games of the season and he did well IMO, thought he would have kept him for this year

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Thu Jun 20, 2013 1:50 pm

100% with Barry here.

Some myth was created around his England cap that he was then shite. The truth is he had an injury straight after he also moaned about training not being great at Cardiff (check Bellamy's book he's spot on). Still following injury he scored more than Bellamy and Chopra by the end of the season. Cardiff lacked in midfield and at CB that season. Jay did fine.

100% agree, The play off final for example, as soon as he went off I knew we were in trouble, we did still go 2 - 1 up but once we were behind we had no one like him to pull it back. Hope he gets a new club and he won't be short of offers, but sadly not good enough now for us. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

A very good player for us on his day, but not a "great" player. I think he could have been great for us,,,if he really wanted to!

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Thu Jun 20, 2013 3:36 pm

He'll go abroad to some Turkish club or something like all the overrated, arrogant, second rate footballers do.

Really dislike him. He came on loan to Wednesday and it was obvious from day one he didn't want to be here. No effort, no desire and was only there for the ride. He worked hard to get his Premier League move and he gave up there, thought he was better than he was and couldn't be arsed to put the effort in for a Wednesday side who really could have done with some spark and quality at the time.

Then he had the cheek to slag the fans of in the press when he went back to QPR. Bothroyd is a Championship player, always has been and always will be.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Thu Jun 20, 2013 3:39 pm

Bothroyd was brilliant for us and if Malky felt his attitude was good enough then I wouldn't complain at seeing him here as a squad player.

Re: Jay Bothroyd RELEASED

Great talent but to much rolling around and generally shit attitude.

At the age of 31 there's a reason why hes played for 10 clubs, he's a prick!!
