Too true mate. I am sat here at the desk waiting for the bad news. I have no doubt that several of my Mess Members will be called at 0900hrs. With the uncertainty in the world this is just 1 step too far but remember the DS answer all along from the government was 85,000.
We will get bitten for this no doubt just as we did on Options for Change and Defence Cost Studies 15 when we were sold down the river.
Lets hear it for our politicians! When the next bit of range work starts maybe we should ask them to fill the gaps. Politicians lie and spin and we are the poor sods that do their bidding. We must be mad

to be fair this isnt just a problem with the armed forces. Standard redundancy is terrible across the board.

Ceri, This redundancy program is worse than a shambles with everything that going on, I have total respect for the armed forces but do you think the TA's are up to the job? ( and this is not a slight on TA but a question regarding training times and practise etc etc )
Best of luck.

The Armed Forces is a totally diferent situation in my eyes. the goverment have a covenant to do all in its power to ensure that our lads are protected respected and not put in harms way unduly instead they declare war on anyone america wants them to and send our lads in looking like f*cking tramps. shit kit no food no back up unless the yanks are passing over our boys are being shit on and to cap it all off the govenment tell them to think once think twice think JAIL before firng on the Taliban even when they know full well they aRE Taliban

well plenty of people know more about the ins and outs of armed forces life than i do, and you only ever hear negatives about how they are looked after and equipped by the government. However it is a slightly different issue to redundancy, which is the same across the public sector and quite shambolic really.

Soldiers put their lives at risk, every day on ops. What risk are the public services in? Stabbing themselves with an over sharpened pencil?
A soldier shots a Taliban murderer and has to answer for his actions (maybe court and prison) while the NHS kill 100's and get away with "we are sorry" and will have an enquiry to make our services more robust in future.
Compare the wages of soldiers and pen pushing public servants ?
We could lose over 1/2 the public servants in this country and no one would notice as they do nothing constructive. That's why their strikes go unnoticed.
Someone with accurate figures could confirm, but I am sure I saw somewhere that there are more pen pushers in the MOD than soldiers. These desk jockeys earn more as well. So lets clear them out first and look after our military personnel.
We could start with a specialist military hospital, staffed by military (RAMC/QARANC etc).
First choice on the housing list when they leave service.
First choice of public service jobs (like council ).

Not to mention the Search and Rescue is being privatised. From 2014 the RAF will no longer be saving people's lives but an American firm will. The government said it was because the helicopters are outdated. Surely investing in new helicopters would increase the RAFs capibility?
What next? Privatise the police force? Oh wait.....

I was supposed to be in the armed forces by now, but due to an incompetent recruiter, I was told they stopped recruiting, which my cousin confirmed was a lie, my cousin was in the armed forces by the way.
Anyway regarding the TAs being up to the task, I think they will. The British armed forces ARE the best trained soldiers/pilots etc in the world. Plus the government said more money would go towards better training for the now called "Army Reserves". Now I want this government out but I'll take their word for that.
I fully believe the Reserves will be up for the job.

Lets not get all tearful on soldiers behalf they wuldnt want that. they choose to join up they are not forced but the real point is that the goverment DO have a duty, a written covenant to do all they can to minimize dangers/risks where posible for men who take up arms for the country. Labour and conservtive are both happy to send the lads in to war but neither actually care a f**k if the lads are wearing body armour or body warmers. it disgusts me

Agreed, however they also have a duty in protecting the realm and the people of Great Britain, which is why such bullshit of an excuse is normally a precursor to war.
I wonder when the second Oil War will start? I'll guess November.

From my experience serving the governments of the day give very little regards to the military. Yes they will show admiration to the forces when it suits them like waving to the crowds during the Falklands win or looking smart for Rememberance Day but overall the military is a tool for their own gain.
When I was in Communism was our enemy so it was not a problem. Lately though a lot of people say we are in an illegal war that is Iraq. I intend to agree with that. So would I join again if I had my time under these present circumstances? Would I bollocks unless I needed the job desperately.
My personal opinion is that the serving person of today is very brave. The possibility of going to war is a lot higher. The worse thing of it all though are the idiots who send them there. Who wants to work for those lot?

We cannot afford all the immigrants but we still keep them coming in.
We cannot afford all this foreign aid to dodgy African countries, but we keep paying it.
We cannot afford the council people in Caerphilly but we still pay them.
We cannot afford to keep muslim clerics and terrorists in this country but we still do.
So would you complain if we stopped all the above?

At the end of the day, the government need to make sure the people have a good standard if life. By having a good healthcare system, education system, a propper judiciary system, growing and producing enough food, provide enough jobs and finally make sure the people are protected.
