I was just wondering if anybody on here has visited Thailand before and where they would reccommened visit.
Im planning on going there for around 2 months and would like to start by visiting Bangcock and then possibly on to Chian Mai. I havent done as much research as I would like to have yet but was wondering what peoples opinions were.
Id like to be able to drink a lot, take some shrooms, meet people but also take in some Thai culture, meet some new people and visit historical places.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Drink a lot? British type Culture... then definitely hit Pattaya. Thousands of prozzis but you dont have to dip your wick. Try flying out to the islands to. koh Samui is brilliant. I endd up in Khon Kaen too North West and thats proper cultur not far from Laos. Go to a travel agent in Bankok airport and they all speak dead good english and you can get pretty good deals. look out for cheap wekend breaks to china too

have fun mate i went 18 month ago. oh wen u in Pattaya speak to brits cos wen yr visa is running out u can get on a excurcion to Cambodia to get it stamped they all do it enjoy mate!

Bangkok, Pattaya, Chang Mai, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phi Phi, Phuket all good fun and all very different places. I wouldn't stay in Bangkok for too long, spend 2 days there and if you are desperate to spend anymore you can do it at the end of your trip. The other places are more fun in my experience.
I wouldn't worry about drinking lots being a British culture, Thais like a good swish as much as most Brits.
Great place, lots of culture, great people. You'll love it.

Appreciate all the feedback. Im going to do a bit of research over the next week and sort something out. The majority of people I have spoken to have said not to spend too much time in Bangcock but all say its a really good place to start as its supposed to be mental.

Bangkok is amazing fun, so much to do and so much going on that you won't get bored, but I think you will be better off just doing a short trip there to start, and like I say if you feel you want to spend more time there you can do it on the way out.
Not sure what part of Bangkok you are staying but Khao San Road is good fun, cheap and about as nuts a place (in a good way) that you'll have ever been. It's full of mainly foreigners though, so if it's Thais you want to meet you might be better off staying somewhere else in Bangkok.
If you are after sleaze go to Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza, even if you aren't after hookers, they are good places to see . Be careful of the LadyBoys in Nana Plaza, some are very convincing. My advice would be to keep you dick in your trousers around that area as things aren't always what they seem around there.

fully agree with most things you said there mate. One thing I would add is to go off the beacon track for a while and see the 'Real' Thailand. Also what my mate and I did was to go and see the area where they done 'the bridge over the river Kwai', go to the cemetery and war memorial and we then rented out a canoe and went 13 miles down the river. A fantastic life-long experience and would recommend that to anyone.
