Cardiff City have missed out on the signing of South Korean star Son Heung-Min, who has joined German outfit Bayer Leverkusen for £8.5m.
The 20-year-old international team-mate of Kim Bo-kyung, had been playing at SV Hamburg since leaving school at 16, but has attracted interest from around Europe since the end of last season.
Thies Bliemeister, the 6ft striker's agent told German newspaper Bild: “Liverpool, Tottenham, Fulham, Southampton and Cardiff were interested in concrete terms.
“I think, at clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham he would also be able to play.”
But he signed a deal to play Champions League football for the club who finished third in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, who contested May's showpiece European final.
The agent continued: “I think Leverkusen for the next two or three years is the right step to develop. "
The 15 times capped star, who turned down the chance to play in the 2012 Olympics to focus on playing for Hamburg, scored twelve league goals last season and has now signed a five-year contract at the BayArena.
Bayer sporting director Rudi Völler said: "Heung Min Son is quick, agile, technically strong and has a fantastic shot.
“He will help us achieve our goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League."
