I wrote on here a few weeks ago Corky that two corners are being filled and possibly a third, which would have been the away stand.

The corner between the ninian and canton is for emergency access paul so your on a safe bet its the grandstand side

Yes I remember that Carl, but there are 4 corners and it is possible that they could fill in the Canton/Grange corner in or possibly the away stand( which seemed daft giving more seats in the away end) I am sure that someone at the club told me it would be the two grandstand corners but I just can't remember for sure...

The corner between the Ninian and Canton is the largest corner which will be used for access for machinery etc.

The away corner being filled will help keep the 10% or 3,000 rule depending on capacity. Therefore leaving more seats available for home fans.

My seat is just above the Grandstand/Canton corner. To be honest, I don't ever remember seeing anything or anybody entering the pitch from there.

Actually, thinking about it, there is a disabled area at the front of the Grandstand there. They probably use that corner for access.

The plans will be available for fans to see according to the club but the facts are that by the start of season 2014-15 the capacity will be 32,500....this is the difficult extension because it needs the roof removed, and replaced ...the Ninian stand will be higher than the rest. This can be called phase one of the extension

The above will be done regardless of what league we play

The plans then are to do the next phase behind each goal....adding between 2,500-3,000 seats to both the canton end and the family stand...these are more straight forward because the roof does not need removing and the stadium was designed with this in mind...this can be called phase two of the extension and could possibly be done between seasons

That takes the capacity to approx. 38,000

My opinion on this phase is that it will be done if we are in the Premier league....just my opinion but I thought that about the phase one of the extension so you never know.

The corners are also another opportunity to increase capacity further and a possible 4,000 more seats could be fitted...this would be phase three of the extension

This takes the capacity to 42,000 approx.

My view on this phase is I am not sure we will see that in the next two to three years but I would not rule it out


Those are my thoughts on what I have heard but it is guesswork based on what I have been told....once the plans are available to view things will be much clearer...maybe the press will find out more and publish the plans to we can all be clear.

I thought it was quite obvious but everyone seems to be confused and not one person has mentioned this yet. The 2 corners possibly 3 will be filled this summer. When the extra tiers are added in the future this will create gaps in the corners again between the stands higher up. I'm guessing that these will be the corners that will be filled to make 42,000 and not the corners currently seatless lower in the stadium.

yes it put it simply a few hundred seats will be added to the existing corners during this summer...taking our capacity to approx 27,500 probably the grandstand corners....that was my original question....then once the extension work is advanced there will be more areas in the corners that can be filled in, higher up in the stadium that would allow the capacity to go above 42,000

I don't see why we can't fill all four corners of the stadium. Don't see any problems at King Power Stadium for example.

The recent update regarding the expansion didn't mention filling corners this summer, but it was mooted over the last few weeks that two corners maybe three would have seats added. Specific corners were not identified but some guess work was. I'm sure when you walk into the ground for the opening home friendly in August you may well get your answer.

We are still none the wiser on which corners will be filled this summer though, just that two or three of them will be.
Just wait until first home game, people will see with their own eyes.
