IF Tony Pulis taught us anything it was to be patient during the transfer window as we wait for the right apples to fall from the tree.
So while Player Watch has kept you up to date with the latest rumours since returning from our end-of-season holidays this week, we are anxious not to overlook those potential deals that have been ripening nicely for a few weeks now.
What on earth are we talking about?
Well Kenwyne Jones to Cardiff City, that’s what.
It’s been an interesting summer for the Stoke City striker.
One day he opens his locker to discover a pig’s head staring back at him, the next he opens the Daily Mirror to discover he’s a target for the Bluebirds ... or should that be Redbirds?
Either way, it makes sense. Jones couldn’t get a game at Stoke last season and Cardiff are in the market for a powerful, experienced Premier League goalscorer whose name sounds a bit Welsh.
The snag is Jones is but one of several options being considered by Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay.
WalesOnline this week report that QPR’s Jamie Mackie – who, by the way, was offered to Stoke in January – has been a target of Malky Mackay’s for some time.
It seems Jones could also be joined on Mackay’s shortlist by Peter Odemwingie, Dirk Kuyt and Salomon Kalou.
Jones only has 12 months left on his contract, so you assume Stoke would be willing to sell this summer, unless new manager Mark Hughes sees the former Sunderland striker as his number one target man rather than Peter Crouch.
