" GLORY, GLORY CARDIFF CITY "

Sat Jun 15, 2013 8:51 am

It has been 13 years since Cardiff City have suffered a relegation, back in 1999/2000 season we were relegated to division 3 (bottom division).

Since that season we have gained promotion through the leagues as runners up, play off winners and as Champions, each promotion has been magical.

Along our journey we have had some pretty amazing highlights too, an FA Cup Final appearance, a League Cup Final appearance and we won the Algarve Cup :D

This coming Wednesday at 9am we will see the name of Cardiff City Football Club take its place in the fixture list of the Premier League.

What we have achieved as a club on the pitch over these past 13 years has been quite remarkable considering what has gone on off it during that time. The long and drawn out new stadium build, the Langston affair, the winding up petitions, players not getting paid on time, golden ticket scam, the rebrand.

There has always been some kind of negativity in the background of our club but nevertheless we have continued to climb through the leagues and earn our right for place at the top table. At the same time we have generated new fans along the way, we have gone from an average of 6,000 to 23,000 in this relatively short period.

This season we are one of the favourites to be relegated, we will be up against it and the underdogs in the vast majority of the games we play, we are all excited about seeing the City play against Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea etc. but how will the fans react if we are losing most of our games?

There was a time when I started watching City and despite the result we would always get behind the team and give them support and then we were playing teams a lot less glamourous and teams not so steeped in success shall we say.

Hope we all stick with the team all season - there will be plenty of highs and lows!

Yes it has been good,I got my season ticket in the 2000-2001 season and have lived every minute of it and seen promotion from every division unlike some of these so called fans who have only turned up from the fa cup final onwards that's my rant for the day ha

Its very simple Carl. If we start losing there will be a backlash from the fans.

Nice little write up mate. Your right win lose or draw we need to give the team our full passionate support and show the world how great fans we are finally on the big stage. Expectations are going to be low so hopefully the atmosphere will still be buzzing, can't wait :ayatollah:

Correct Carlos, the fans who started watching City about 13 years ago have only ever seen Success after Success. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
I hope they stick with us, no matter how the results go on the pitch next season, it will be very interesting to see.
Remember if we win only 10-12 Premier League games plus draws we will probably be safe next season, I hope a lot of our new fans dont expect to win every week.

It did annoy me last season when the away teams scored say near the end at our place, hundreds of our fans would walk out, in the 72nd minute when Leicester equalised, I looked over and droves of fans were making for the exits.

So no matter what the results next season, keep supporting the team vocally :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I am gutted not to be there to support the lads this season but will never stop following and supporting Cardiff. I'll make as many away games as possible that my work and young family allows but believe we can and will stay up! :ayatollah:

I think that most fans, including myself, are not that naive in thinking that the Premiership is not going to be other than a tough & challenging season ahead.

What we will all expect is that as a team we compete to the best of our ability, both on & off the pitch.

I have no doubt that this will be achieved. :malky: :ayatollah: :malky: :ayatollah: :malky: :ayatollah:

Im thinking of the fact that once again we are the plucky underdogs so hopefully the noise at home games will increase dramatically.
Realistically we are unlikely to beat the likes of man u,man city, arsenal and chelsea but as long as the lads give it their all which im certain they will, then ill be very happy :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

And if we don't?

All I'm doing Lakey is saying what will happen in a certain scenario so lay off being judgemental ok.

There was dickheads booing when we were top of the league.
We have no chance if we are down the bottom. Booing the team achieves nothing.

I agree with this, I have never booed City even when they've played very poorly, as a fan you have to support your team on the pitch 100%. Unfortunately football being what it is nowadays there are plenty of fans that will boo the team or like Annis said above, even walk out of the stadium if we dare to concede a goal.

This is all down to the new fan I'm afraid who only have known success.

Even the Jacks have suffered this problem and they have been more successful than us over the last 10 seasons were both clubs have climbed. I feel we can confidently say in the old days when we were bad the fans never booed the team, well I don't recall any of it. However I have heard booing when thing are not going right although we are high up the league. In fact it is not just us but every club these days.

For the record I'm confident we will stay up, most likely will be mid table. However this does not mean I have to get excited as I'm not due to the circumstances. Some of us hold dear the traditions than others.

Fair play Ian, that is optimism right there, mid table!!!

I would be over the moon with finishing mid table, but there again 17th placed finish will do me just fine, any position higher will be a bonus :malky:

with all due respect baked you have never been happy in all the time this message board has been running.
You were constantly negative long long before the rebrand mate and anyone on here who is not a personal friend of yours would agree with me.
