Crystal Palace have reportedly swooped in with a last minute bid in an attempt to steal Amido Baldé from Celtic. The Scottish Premier League champions were reportedly closing in on a deal that would land them the Portugal striker. The deal in place was for a reported fee of £2.5 million, however, at the last minute, newly promoted side Crystal Palace complicated negotiations with the supposed outbidding of Celtic for the player. It was rumoured that Baldé was scheduled for a medical at Celtic today, but Palace's last minute phone call may have derailed those plans, putting the move to Celtic temporarily on hold.

Baldé would be a welcome addition to the newly promoted Crystal Palace side. Last season with Vitória Sport Club, Baldé netted an impressive 29 goals in 27 appearances. He helped lead the club to their first ever Portuguese Football Cup victory last season. The 22 year-old is a physical powerhouse at the striker position and standing at 6 ft 4 in, he is an aerial threat in the box.

Baldé is just one of several young players Holloway is looking to bring in to his side. It has also been reported that Halloway has interest in out-of-contract centre half, Roman Golobart. The 21 year-old former Wigan player, is reportedly looking for more regular football with a Premier League side.

I think he would have been the exact type of striker that we needed. If we are going to unearth some cheap gems like Michu, then its young up and coming players like Balde that we should be in for. As Balde has joined Celtic now, we need to look at other cheap strikers. Personally, i would love for City to sign Eder from Braga in Portugal. This guy is the same build as Balde, around the same height, strong, good in the air, pacey and he scores more goals than Amido Balde. Eder could be a cheaper alternative to Bafetimbi Gomis as well, if we miss out on him. Also, while were in for Eder we should pick up Braga's quality attacking right full back, Leandro Salino and their big no-nonsense centre half, Douglao. There are some really good players at Braga, to be honest there are good players all over Portugal. We should look around there, as there are loads of quality players that are dirt cheap.
