I'm surprised that MM is interested in this player as when he was at Watford Williamson put in a transfer request and to help push it through declared himself unfit to play.

For £2m it''s a good price I think. He was blamed by Newcastle supporters for their poor season last year but that is an absolute crock. My only concern is his lack of pace and the is something we need badly at the back.

I've never been convinced with him, a few times I have seen him play and dally on the ball, getting caught in possession in dangerous positions. I would rather someone more decisive and more no nonsense. As already said, he lacks pace as well and although he's a decent size, I think he's very slight for a centre back. Big target men like Benteke, Ba and Lukaku might make mince meat out of him.

Saw a lot of Newcastle fans on Twitter who don't rate him, haven't seen much of him. Look in the dutch league for the centre backs because their are some potential talent there.

I think he's a bit better than them in fairness, I would hope we would be signing a bit better though. We got scouts in Central Europe etc, so I'd hope we'd be getting someone from there. Plenty of talent in that region, with a fraction of the price too

Cardiff are preparing to launch a bid for Newcastle defender Mike Williamson as they aim to retain Premier League status next term.
The Bluebirds won promotion via the automatic positions in the Championship, securing top spot with a comfortable eight-point gap over second-placed Hull.

Boss Malky Mackay has insisted he would like to keep a strong contingent of players who performed so well last season, but has also conceded that he will have to bring in some fresh faces with Premier League experience if they are going to beat the drop.

The Scot worked closely with the Magpies defender during a three-year spell together at Watford and believes he could be key in adding a solid base for the team to play from.
