What if Tan,

Says to Malky, " Go get me European Football,Money is no issue".
Spending power like QPR last season but better recruitment .
Who would you want?

Re: What if Tan,

I think that would take at least 11 new players and probably around 100mill+ in transfer money .
They would have to be current internationals like Walcott , carrick and Defoe people in that bracket of player IMO .

Re: What if Tan,

Man City's owners put in about £500m before they achieved European football.

Doesn't really matter that's champions league , championship winning money .
If you spend 10 mill each on ten players you should achieve a European spot say 6/7th .

They spent £500m before they managed to qualify for Europa league for their third season going at it. The £500m got them a side that only managed 9th and then 5th.

You can't aim for 6th or 7th for European football because neither of the teams in those positions qualified this year.

Re: What if Tan,

How much did swansea spend ?
Last couple of years
How much did Newcastle spend
How much did everton spend ?
Tottenham ?
Aston villa in 2009
Stoke
Just a few who have made European football without spending huge money just by shrewd signings . And finishing 5th-7th depending on who wins the cups .

Man city is not a realistic comparison because they spend stupid money

Re: What if Tan,

But all of those teams have longer term strategies. I thought your question was what would we have to do to get European football next season if Tan demanded it. A lot of those clubs and man city were established premier clubs with good squads, we aren't.

Personally think £50-£60m wage bill a year is the target to stay up, £70-£80m would be more like it if we wanted to try for European football in the next five years. £150m + for instant attempt at European football.

Transfer budgets probably £25m, £50m and £200m for each of those three options. Hopefully after first few seasons these figures would be closer to zero as we will be able to sell players to fund replacements.

The only option in our price range is to try and stay up and we should only put youth players in the cup competitions until we are near certainties to get 40 points. I think that will be the reality for next year

Re: What if Tan,

Then eventually we d do a portsmouth and there would be no more cardiff city

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 7:45 am

Exactly

Think Southampton will be the ones worried about following QPR this season having spent £40m last year on transfers they really need to stay up. Although their signings have more resale value than QPRs

Your right with the re sale value of their players, they have some quality players such as clyne, cork, schneiderlin, lambert, rodriguez amd many more. They were debt free arriving to the prem so i cant imagine they have much debt at the moment

Re: What if Tan,

Think your missing the point...

It's a hypothetical question...

Not asking for long term strategies...

Or comparisons to other teams...

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:04 am

£200m then, like Laudrup said

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:09 am

Two or three £25m-£30m stars and 5 or 6 other first teamers for about £10m each

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:08 am

If you can get the right type of player i.e.someone who wants to play for the club and not the money I'd say 60-80m could put a very good team together bearing in mind we already have a few good quality players who could do the job.

Hahaha, Tony, we'd be doomed! Actually, what would that squad be? It might not be too bad! It would basically be the Welsh national team excepted managed by Malky.

Jose Mourinho!!   :ayatollah:

Only joking. I'm happy for Malky to do what he sees fit, so whoever he chooses. At least that way you know we'll get players who WANT to wear the shirt every game (unlike the QPR mis-fits) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Could,nt care less so long as we wore Blue in Europe and got rid of the shite red pretend Man Utd kit :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

You'll learn, mate, but to do that you first have to understand...and that won't be easy given your non understanding of 'why' the red had to be embraced (even reluctantly) in order to get Tan on board last season ;)

Always easy to make 'bold' statements once the dust has settled on any issue ;) :ayatollah:

I don't see why people think you need to spend a fortune to gain success ?
If you scout properly and find the right players with a good attitude then you can build a very good successful team for under 100mill easy . It's all about finding the right players with the skill level and hunger to succeed . That's where having a good management system , academy and scouting network comes into play . Sorry to say it but how well did swansea and west brom do this year by only spending pennies compared to other teams ? I'd bet without looking we were probably on a par with swansea spending wise last year and they gained European football and a top ten finish ! Imagine they had the extra 70mill to spend they would have made top 6 IMO .
Its about finding the right players not paying over inflated prices and that's a fact !
Look at Liverpool they spent a fortune on names and got nowhere ! Everton and spurs spent less and finished above them. And they will this year aswell .

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 4:09 pm

Might be wrong Thomas but don't think Brenda spent a lot last summer think spurs spent more didn't they?

Also looks like they have adopted a new transfer policy after expensive flops like downing.

What you posted though is basically what all of us expect malky to do, spend wisely on players that fit the "malky player mold"

I think with a good start we can finish 11-15th this year and build year after year.

Even then the highest any of the teams outside the top few can dream of would be 7th or 8th.

Re: What if Tan,

Fri Jun 07, 2013 4:58 pm

Our squad cost £14.7m to put together and is valued at £29m on transfermrkt website
Spurs' Europa league qualifying squad from this year cost £157.7m in transfer fees and is valued at £245m
Newcastle's Europa league qualifying squad from the year before cost £73.4m in transfer fees.

So it is possible to spend less than £100m and finish in the top 5 or 6 but Newcastle then only managed 16th this season which suggests we could just as easily spend £60m on transfer fees and still only finish 16th.

I think £150m to £200m is a pretty realistic transfer budget if you immediately wanted to challenge for Europa league places.

Re: What if Tan,

If you look at the big names that might move this summer Rooney, Tevez, Fellaini, Hulk, Villa. You would want to bring in 2 or 3 names like these to realistically push for a top 6 finish.
