Cardiff City are lining up a move former Everton defender Joseph Yobo – according to reports in Turkey.

The 32-year-old is thought to be unhappy at the Turkish giants, who missed out on the Super Lig title to Istanbul rivals Galatasaray last month.

Since the season ended on May 19, coach Aykut Kocaman has left the club and the Nigerian centre back is believed to be unhappy with the departure and with the recent £5m signing of Portuguese defender Bruno Alves from Zenit St Petersburg.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik has reported that Malky Mackay's recruitment team are considering a move for the experienced star who spent nine years at Goodison Park under the Bluebirds boss' friend and confidant David Moyes.

The fact that the the Turkish Football Federation now only permits six foreign players to take the field at one time in league matches means that the man whose international career with Nigeria also looks in doubt could be available on a cut-price deal.

Yobo, who signed for the club based on the banks of the Bosphorus for £2m last summer, has played 95 times in a 12-year career for his country and has the type of experience Mackay has claimed he is looking for in his summer recrruits.

While not commenting specifically on the former Marseille and Standard Leige player, Mackay, speaking from his holiday in Crete, said: “Our recruitment department is in a very busy period right now working through things.

“Me and Iain Moody are in touch two or three times a day.

“He’s beavering away.”

Same age as Toure and has been playing at quite a high level. Would be a good signing imo. :malky:

Doesn't he have serious injury problems in his past?

Just the experience we need. Yobo and Hudson at the back, with the likes of Connolly and Barnett (fingers crossed) for back-up would do nicely.

Would be an interesting signing, I really don't rate him now though. He's too old, We need pace at th back. Probably would of been a great signing a few years ago though.

I imagine he will be on pretty big wages as well.

Although looking at how much Fenerbache signed Bruno Alves from Zenit for, I think the price quoted maybe to high.

How about Ambrose from Celtic?

Does that report say yhey had contacted Malky while he was on holiday?

Thats a bit harsh for him. At least give him some private time before he prepars fro arguably the most importnant year of his career to date

Why do people always make such a big issue of age. Rio Ferdinand & John Terry are both ageing and are still playing at the top.

Yobo was fantastic for Everton and they were gutted when he left. I remember him having a few injury problems at Everton but whether they are beyond him or not im not sure. Quality defender while he was at Everton and would definitely strengthen us.

I thought the club was trying to get rid of all yobo's?
Now they are talking of bringing another one back. Will this help the atmosphere?

Strange as the majority of Everton fans were gutted when Yobo left, he was their best centre half at the time by far in my opinion.

Didnt he have a big tantrum and throw his toys out the pram at Everton?

Would be a decent signing with his physical presence at the back.

He is more naturally suited to the right side of the centre back pairing so would probably be competition for Hudson rather than a partner for him. He is on £40k per week at the moment apparently.

Ive seen him play and he was past his best before his final season at Everton. Not better than what we've got these days and deffo wouldn't offer any fee for him because of the contract he is on
