We need a left back!

I know a lot of fans think we don't need a left back and are happy with taylor in the premiership.
But what if Taylor gets injured we got no1 as back up Declan John is too young so does anyone apart from me thnks it's really important we sign a left back aswell as a right back? And who would you like to see here?

Hull look like signing Figueroa he would have been a decent signing but Wayne bridge for me he is on a free transfer so would be a steal.

Izaguirre from Celtic. He was 2nd in line after Brayford. Why Malky keeps persisting trying to sign him I dont know. Just move on to target number 2 FFS.

Kev and the Norwich guy can't remember his name either lol not good enough in the prem get a quality left back in and Taylor and the new guy can battle it out for the spot

I likes taylor too. but think wel buy a left back. right back. Barnett. Winger. midfielder an 2 strikers

Kevin McNaughton is a big game player and he will deliver in the Premiership. He's much better at left back than right back as well. I think we need a right back though. I don't think Connolly will cut it in the Premiership. I wasn't Taylor's biggest fan but he's turned his game around this season so he has my backing to start the season as left back.

Not quick enough,not physical enough and not sharp enough for the premiership

That's OK but if he couldn't push in at CB in the champ doubt he will in the prem.

Useful to have as back up but not good enough at RB or CB IMO.

I liked the look of the young Charlton lad (solly?) had a great game against Bellers end of season. Bridge has gone to Reading . Agree with above, happy for Taylor to start, McNaughton a better left back than right back and connelly while a good Championship player may struggle in premier league, therefore a new right back is vital.

I hardly think he should be learning the position in the first team, at 18, in the premier league.

Well yeah Marshall has to start as number one and I think he will be a huge hit in the premier.
But I'm not sure lewis is up to it and in any case we need 3 keepers of good quality.

He spent last season learning the position aswell. You learn whilst playing and if hes good enough he will be fine, he will have a experienced cb talking him through every game.

The OP also states that its about what happens if taylor gets injured, i think taylor is good enough to be 1st choice left back, and dont see why we would buy another left back if john is there. like i said, if hes good enough he needs to break through now, if you add another full back in front of him, he wont be at city when he does break through, he will be sold to a lower league and starting again.

arsenal- K gibbs played alot of games at 18 after the odd cup game at 17, injuries has blighted him, but hes still got england caps.

chelsea - cole. broke through at arsenal to make the position his own aged 18-19.

everton - baines, 19 yrs old played 26 league games for wigan that season.

fulham - riise - 17 when he broke through in norway and played reg.

Liverpool - jose enrique played for celta vigo 19 games aged 19.

Man city - Kolorov broke through in yugoslavia aged 19. 27 apps.

United - Evra, aged 17, 24 games.

Newcastle - santon 18yrs, capped by italy.

norwich - Garrido - 19 yrs, first choice real sociadad.

Saints - Shaw, 17, first choice.

Jacks- Davies/taylor, both 18/19 when regular.

spurs - assou ekotto - 20 yrs old on break through reg season.

WBA - Ridgewell 19 on breakthrough reg at villa

WBA - George mccartney - breakthrough reg 19yrs old.

Villa and stoke had left backs who broke through aged 20. so was a year out.

Ive not inc relegated teams or promoted teams as it was getting boring as hell.


But basically all bar 2 teams there left backs were in at 18-19 as reg starters. if John is going to be the player we hope he is going to be there is no point in blocking his path, this season he needs to be no2 to taylor and get some game time in both league and cup.

It doest matter what team you play for at the time, the better players who go on and do stuff break through at any club at a young age. premiership doesnt matter.

You made my point in saying taylor, riise, baines. Both at lower sides and made the breakthrough at a young age before moving on.

How can the only 2 of note be shaw and davies, im sure santon would disagree and put is international caps on the table and the fact he was at inter milan, kolorov, cashly, evra, enrique all broke through at 18/19 and are now known names within the league and known as top players.

I'd have gone for Bridge but looks like he has gone to Reading. Izaguirre would show real ambition to stay up but I'd be happy with someone like Shorey coming in as back up to Taylor. At least then we would have two proper left backs, Lappin is a converted midfielder and doesn't fill me with confidence.

I'm sure there are better options than Shorey but I'd just like us to have a proper left back as back up
