This is a great idea
The KNVB is introducing a scheme that will see a yellow card in the amateur game punished by a 10-minute spell on the sidelines.
The plans, which are to be brought in next season by the Dutch football body, will see a player removed from the action if they receive a booking and anyone who has been banned will have to show that they have improved their conduct before being allowed to return.
Anton Binnenmars, director of amateur football at the KNVB, said the manslaughter of linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen at the hands of three players at a local match late last year was the catalyst for the measures.
"After the sad events on December 2, it became clear for the football world and the society in general that we needed to do something," Binnenmars said.
"We have to take stronger measures. Violence does not belong on the pitch."

Great idea

Shocking decision. All it will do is get more players diving to get opposition players sin binned.

What happens if two players get booked in quick concession? Are you down to 9 men for 10 minutes?
Would destroy all kinds tactics planned, making the game a lot more interesting but ridiculous idea IMO

What happens if a club get 5 players booked inside a 10 minute spell. Under the laws of the game the match has to be abandoned.
Sadly there are managers around who are cynical enough to try that so there must be BIG penalties, including point deductions, if that ever happened.
Other than that I think it's a good idea.

Imagine an El Clasico with such rules? It'd be 5 a side almost every game.

Hate it when a player gets red carded,it spoils the game especially if its early on.i know rugby has a sin bin but don't think it'll work in football.my idea is if a player gets a red card he stays on the pitch but his team is deducted a point.if its a cup game or playoff game again the player stays on the pitch but his team concede a penalty.
you can probably pick hole's in my idea but anyone got any other's?

Unlike rugby, it usually takes a lot longer than 10 minutes for a one man advantage to count in football. The team with the sin binned player will just go into their shell, put everyone behind the ball and ride it out quite easily. and like a previous poster said, youl get players falling around everywhere.

The current system in football works fine. 'Sin bins' are an Ice Hockey invention. Different game. Perhaps somebody who supports the Cardiff Devils could explain how it works there?

I think its a good idea for the amateur game as it will improve the quality of tackles and also see less players diving so they aren't sin binned. This would then benefit the professional game as these players who have come up through the amateur game will have higher standards. However, I would keep the sin bin out of the professional game all together.

bit harsh if its a first yellow, maybe use a sin bin if they offend a second time ,so you spend 10 mins on the side ,back on if they do something again then they would be gone with a red .
think you'd also have refs easing up a bit with cards as well cos they wouldnt want to send 2/3 to the bin in quick succession as it would kill the game,
some games now make wrong decisions with red cards so maybe a yellow, sin bin then red may work.
Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:44 am
Think it would be better to only sin bin if you are already on a yellow, as an alternative to a red.
Too many games are being spoilt for 2 soft yellows.

It will be interesting to see how it works. Something needed to be done after that referee was murdered. I've seen some pretty appalling physical attacks over here and would welcome a sin bin approach in this country. Over here, players seem to be protected by the law when they step onto a parks pitch.
Will it work? Not sure. At least the Dutch FA are trying to take positive action.
Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:35 pm
Simple solution to stop attacks.
Put every player on a national grassroots database and then if they are guilty of attacking a ref or another player they get a 5 year ban from the game from all teams. Any team found trying to register a banned player is removed from the league for one season. A 12 year old who has just acted like an immature idiot might be able to save his career but a 16 year old will be 21 by the time his ban is up.
Tough approach but respect is part of the game.

Dont be so naive Barney.
They will just register under another name.
I was still turning out for my old mans under 18s when I was 23/24 if they were short.
Nanny Mcphail also had a couple of games but blew it after getting booked for a cynical challenge and when asked his name forgot the false name he was playing under
