Would you swap Tan for Riddler?

Tue Jun 04, 2013 3:35 pm

Interesting question.

A lot of people have been saying "Tan out". I'm not one of the red brigade, definitely want us to return up blue but be careful what you wish for.

Remember where we were before the Malaysians came in. Thinking back, those of us who said it was red or dead were probably being a bit strong. But we were, and still would be, in a terrible mess as a club.

So is there anyone out there who would swap Tan and have the Riddler back?

I expect and would hope that not a single fan would say yes.

Better still, who would swap them for the Venkys? or that Indian fella who was in charge of Pompey?

I dont think he is on about red or dead but before that when HMRC were ready to wind us up.

Re: Would you swap Tan for Riddler?

Tue Jun 04, 2013 5:42 pm

People quickly forgot about HMRC taking us to court and nearly wiping us out. I remember the HMRC only let us continue each time as Riddler said he had an investor (TAN) about to take over. I think he said this twice. The courts then said enough is enough next time you pay or go.

Red or dead doesnt matter, he saved the club when nobody was willing to step in.

If Tan never came in, and with winding up threats looming, I still believe that someone would have come in and prevented extinction. A capital city club with new stadia and huge catchment area FFS. Tan and Ridsdale have damaged our club in different ways. So its Tan by a whisker over Ridsdale, if Tan didnt treat us fans with such inconsideration and with deaf ears he could be a legend. When he came here he didnt even know the rules of the game, let alone the importance of history identity and tradition! He is a stranger in a strange land looking to make money quickly. He is Columbus managing the Harlem Globetrotters. He needs to put trust in an advisor who isnt a yes man, but that probably will never happen. I think he is here for the long haul now we are in the Prem. And Bayern winning the Champions League strengthened his lucky red belief no doubt. We wont be blue for a very long time it kills me to say.

Depends on how you view a High Court Winding Up Order

Look he wasn't going to put £6m into this club if he didn't have some kind of long term plan. May be if we had beaten Blackpool in 2010 things might have panned out differently, but by the time he had sunk a further £40m in two season later there were bound to be at least a rethink on strategy.

I have often thought the real blame for the rebrand was our pathetic performance in that play off final.

Indeed he did...and we need to be grateful for that WHATEVER HIS PERSONAL MOTIVES because he is (in reality) no worse and possibly a lot better than many who might have come in (not that anyone offered, except that dickhead from the Channel Islands, of course! ) and has been true to his word in the main ;) :ayatollah:

I wouldn't swop Tan for Ridsdale but would for Sam.

Sam picked us up from our rotting arse and kick started the rise back to the big time. Bad Mistakes were made along the way, but at least he listened to us when he wanted to rebrand us and he kept our identity, in fact enhanced the Welshness. As much as I am looking forward to seeing us in the Prem which is a dream come true literally,( and that is soley down too Tans investment), its not as mind blowing as it should be for me, its severely tainted by our owners ignorant my way or the highway dictatorship. In its finest hour on the pitch, I have never felt so ignored or distanced from my club. It saddens and sickens me, they knew Blue shorts would have won the vote.

Re: Would you swap Tan for Riddler?

No. Ridsdale did a decent job but there is a huge shaddow over his era due to the season ticket saga. He completely lied to the fans. I wouldnt choose Hammam over Tan either, yes he took the club forward, but also took on too much debt for himself and the club to afford. Hammam was also a .massive liar and manipulated fans. I still dont understand why any Cardiff fan would want him back, he was good on the football side and for bringing the club forward but also almost drove the club to extinction with his foolishness and inability to run a football club (just like Wimbledon). Tan is controversial because of the rebrand but rebrand aside he is the best owner the club has had since I have been following City in my opinion (Since 1998)

You say Hammam "enhance the Welshness" ? Well we now have a massive Welsh dragon as our logo and a red kit. Doesnt get more Welsh than that does it.

You say Hammam "picked us up from out rotten arse" well he also left us on our rotten arse. Tan came also while we were on our rotten arse and has taken the club forward a lot further. We are now on a sound financial position despite the debt and we are in the Premier League. Sam could only dream of taken us to the heights Tan has, Hammam talked the talk, Tan delivered.

Rebrand aside, Tan has been our best ever owner. But honestly I'd take blue back for anything as long as we have a secure future.

That's exactly it - a secure future.

In 2010 and last summer we did not have a secure future. Even now it isn't entirely certain we would have a secure future without VT.

What your post, maybe mistakenly, implies is that you would not have blue if it threatened our future. That is exactly the mindset of the fans who have accepted the rebrand.

Tan delivered agreed. His investment in us was influenced on a new expandable stadia, Sam started that ball rolling and for all his mistakes he left us with close to 20000 crowds, he arrived with 4000 crowds and less. Nobody knows but we could still be rotting and yoyoing around the bottom 2 tiers if it wasnt for Sam. As for Tans welshness, a mere coincedence that his favourite and lucky colour happens to be that of our nation. And dont start me on the badge, but hey I am a hypocrite as I have renewed and am looking forward to the new season, but we have whored our identity for an ugly commercialised facelift. Tan says he has fallen in love with football, I only wish he would fall in love with our club.

why does it keep getting called mistakes? sam never made mistakes he lied thru his teeth borrowd recklesly and
kept the fans in the dark by saying it was his dosh. ham man left the club lookin like the Titanic then the riddler
came in and sold tickets to the cabaret and pocketed the money even wile the ship sank. tan is ten times better than either of them if he shows a bit more respect. if he dont i hopes he f**k off

Re: Would you swap Tan for Riddler?

None of them gave a f**k about our club, only how much money they could make from it. The only thing that sets them apart is how much money they have put into the club... and that's without even speculating whose money it is or where that money has come from. They are all as bad as each other just raping our club as our fans have to sit through and suffer the high court rulings and re-brands.

I think you need to check your facts on that. Sam was well gone before we saw a consistent rise above 14000. We wouldn't have got the stadium with Sam still in charge and the council made that absolutely clear, hence the "takeover" by Riddler and PMG.

Let's not view Sam through blue tinted glasses, he was a fantastic catalyst but it was very nearly at the ultimate cost  Black Friday was just the start of the complete meltdown that was only avoided when he was shifted out.

The reason why noboy would touch us with a barge pole before VT was because the finances were in such a mess it was very difficult for anyone who didn't have massive resources to even take a gamble on us because things were so complicated.

VT turned us red, I wish he hadn't. However, I'm still glad that he's at the helm, driving this club forward at a speed and level that none of us have ever experienced before :ayatollah:

why has everytone got to turn every thread into a red v blue issue :laughing6: what I am saying is nothing to do with colour its to do with who I would want running my/our club. Read carefully now ok!!! I would rather have a successful billionaire running our club than a man who couldnt run a second hand car salesroom without putting it's future in jeopardy. What a stupid question in the first place swap Tan for the Riddler??? like I said if Ridsdale was in charge we would be rapidly heading towards extinction which as you may remember was the case not so long ago, or have you all forgotten :laughing6: .We were perilously closed to going out of business the last time that yorkshire tool had his hands on the purse strings. Oh and while i'm at it, any of you fools wishing for Sam over Tan I will say the same again, "be careful what you wish for". My opinion, give him his money and tell him to feck off from our club. Got to say this red or dead business or red v blue is very devisive and it says it all that any red v blue issue or blues unite or whatever their called are put up as a sticky here, never anything positive about our club, just matters to destabilise our club. Anyone with half a brain can see these issues are being stirred up here to cause a problem within the club and in my opinion theres only one man behind that :laughing6: . Ulterior motives and all that if you get me ;) :laughing6: I think you may find Tan is not as daft as he looks in his oversized trousers, his fingers right on the pulse :laughing6: whoever is running this site or has the final say on this site why not start having some positive things to say about Tan and our club because without him we as fans would not have a club. Oh and for the record I am blue through and through (I don't possess a red shirt  ) but all this negativety does the club no good at all, shame on you all - rant over :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Would you swap Tan for Riddler?

No shame in wanting your club to be close to you, we are the heartbeat of CCFC (or we were), that is more important to me than Tans millions or billions. When Sam was in charge the club and its supporters had never been closer. Thats why Sams reign stands out for me, his mistakes, Riddlers mistakes and currently Tans ignorant rebrand mistakes all made in different circumstances, but unlike the other two Sam worked with the fans until his pocket calculator let him down. All I want is for Tan to work with us, not a lot to ask considering we are his 'customers'.

Tan is driving the club forward no doubt, but its more Financial Times than Roy of The Rovers, more X Factor than The Old Grey Whistle Test, more Harlem Globetrotters than Riverside AFC. But I am obviously a dinosaur in my nostalgia and pride in the tradition of my communitys football team. I am careful what I wish for, I dont want a struggling almost extinct team, I want the club to listen, consider and reconnect to us. I struggle to support a 1984 style global money marketing global franchise.

And as my frazzled memory recollects, I am sure we had close to 20k under Sam for games against Leeds, West Ham etc.
