" Millwall and West Ham escape action but placed on notice over conduct of fans "

Millwall and West Ham United have been placed on notice over the future conduct of their fans but have escaped disciplinary action following Football Association investigations into separate incidents during the past season.

Investigations into the offensive chanting of West Ham fans at Tottenham in November and then the behaviour of Millwall fans in footage that was secretly filmed by Sky Sports News was concluded this morning.

Although the FA has warned both clubs that they will consider disciplinary action if further reports of fan misconduct are received, they will issue no charges in relation to incidents they regard as “isolated”.

The FA’s decision followed separate police investigations which ended with one West Ham season ticketholder being given a life ban and two Millwall supporters being arrested, charged and also receiving life bans from the club.

In the West Ham incident, anti-Semitic songs were audible from a significant number of supporters in the away end at White Hart Lane during the game on 26 Nov. Millwall supporters were also filmed shouting abuse in a report that was broadcast on Sky Sports in February.
The undercover video footage came from the matches against Birmingham City match on Oct 23 and then Leeds United on Nov 18. One Millwall fan was specifically seen aiming racist abuse at El Hadji Diouf.

The FA are satisfied that both clubs had been proactive with their fans in trying to eradicate abusive chanting and that they have also followed through with a zero-tolerance approach where supporters have been identified.
It was particularly noted that West Ham and Tottenham had been in liaison before the game and that the subsequent fixture between the clubs in February passed off without any major incident. That followed “significant” efforts by both clubs to warn fans about discriminatory language or gestures.
“The FA advises that consideration will be given to taking disciplinary action against both West Ham United and Millwall if further reports of spectator misconduct are received, however, no charges are to be issued to either club in relation to these isolated incidents,” said an FA statement.
“Both matters were also the subject of separate police investigations and concerned the use of racist and/or offensive language and/or gestures by supporters of West Ham United and Millwall respectively.
“The FA’s own enquiries were not finalised until the conclusion of the police investigations, both of which resulted in arrests being made and charges issued against supporters of West Ham United and Millwall.
"The FA continues to remind all clubs to address any form of discriminatory behaviour with the strongest possible action.” An FA investigation into the behaviour of Millwall fans during the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan Athletic is still ongoing after fighting broke out inside Wembley during the game.

If you look up to them because of their hooliganism.

Both of them have a dreadful reputation. I'd rather no atmosphere than have to put put up with those idiots.

Don't 'look up'to them at all. Just know that they are clubs with a passionate support, from working class parts of London. Never said anything about hooliganism. Besides, this is 2013, not 1977 :?

Whether you like it or not WHU and Millwall are known for their hooliganism rather than their "atmosphere."

You're stretching it a tad by stating 1977.....we all know it's a hell of a lot more recent than 1977.
