No one springs to mind, hoping he was going to uncover a gem from abroad, someone like Chico Flores, that last bit was a joke by the way.

That means we would have Hudson, Turner and Barnett at centre back with Connolly and Nugent as cover. Thats probably our lot in that position and not exactly filling me with confidence. All good enough to be top end championship defenders so just hope they can step up. Only Barnett has any sort of pace would be my one issue, lots of quick players in the premiership who will run rings round them.

Swansea don't seem to have much depth behind Chico and Williams. These two are clearly better than what we've got but Monk, Tate and Bartley aren't any better than our centre back options.

barnett was excellent for us... won countless headers, and always looked to find a pass from the back, never just hoofed it diagonally to the ball boy on the side..
if he was available for little i think it would be good business.

Nice guy etc etc, but struggled with life in the Prem.

Not one to cast judgement, but you'd have thought if anyone knows the player inside out it's Norwich themselves.
And they don't consider him up to Prem standard.
Does this mean we're setting our sights lower?

Got an uneasy feeling in my pants that we retained so many players from last season (unlike Hull) and released only a retiring centre forward and a midfielder the wrong side of 30 with health problems. Also gave another player a contract renewal for him to plonk his arse on the bench for 2 years when he's clearly not Premiership standard.
God help us if we play with our current squad with just a couple of additions.

What odds can you get for him gone by Christmas?

We only conceded in open play in 2 games when Barnett played for us, those games were Barnsley at home and Burnley away. The only other game we conceded was those 2 penalties away to Peterborough. Those stats alone show what a difference Barnett made, he was a fantastic loan signing and I will personally be delighted if we sign him permanent. He has the correct attitude and won't let us down.

I disagree, I think being well organised, playing to our strengths and having a squad of players with the correct attitude, plus quality in the necessary key areas will be good enough for us to survive. Norwich don't really look a Premiership side when you look at their players, Snodgrass, Howson and Bradley Johnson are 3 ex Leeds midfielders who were a mid table Championship side when the 3 of them played for them, but now they are regular starters for a mid table Premiership team and don't look out of place.

We can either keep the majority of our squad who has the correct mentality, attitude, work ethic etc and add to it with a few quality players, or do a QPR and completely dismantle the character and harmony within our squad and sign 4 ex Champions League winners who are mercenaries. I think this past season shows the best approach to take and I hope we follow Norwich's example. Also, surely we will have more quality in our squad than teams like Stoke? I honestly think we will surprise a few teams next season.

It was an obvious deal to be fair. MM was keen to finish the season on a high and after the parade contact between both clubs continued and Barnett was on break!
