CARDIFF CITY LOOKING AT SAINT-ETIENNE PLAYER

Sat Jun 01, 2013 1:01 pm

I have been told from an extremely reliable source that our recruitment department have a player from Saint-Etienne on their list of players wanted by the club.

I have not been told who the player is.

Having taken a look at the players at Saint-Etienne, could that player be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

He is a target of the Jacks, if it is him and we did sign him, I reckon Laudrup may throw his toys out of his pram big time

Is there any player you see as a possible target for us at Saint-Etienne?

Probably Zouma the 17-18 year old CB

You having a laugh? To get him we would probably need at least 3 quarters of a budget used. If it's on loan, go for it.

Definitely. He would also cost a ton, and because he's older and more known, his price would be much higher.

I say probably a middle quality midfielder, or some unheard of youth star who's apparently highly rated. I hope it's somebody with at least proper top level quality who could walk into our team.

Aubameyang is wanted by Spurs and Arsenal but has said he wants to play for Real Madrid

Max Gradel? We could do with a pacey right midfielder, more likely to be in our budget range too.

I think Aubameyang is unlikely to be a City target for two reasons - his cost and the fact that he plays for Gabon. I'm sure Malky is not going to sign any players who will be involved in the African Nations Cup for up to 6 weeks in the new year.

Just look at the loans spells he has had, and look at when he signed for Saint Etiennne full time think we would be able to sign him, I would love it but I am a realist

Team Apps† (Gls)†
2008–2011 Milan 2 (0)
2008–2009 → Dijon (loan) 34 (8)
2009–2010 → Lille (loan) 14 (2)
2010–2011 → Monaco (loan) 19 (2)
2011 → Saint-Étienne (loan) 14 (2)
2011–Saint-Étienne 68 (35

Don't think that will make a difference if the player is good enough, say for example Messi was African do you really think Malky would turn him down for the sake of 6 weeks , he will just see it as someone else in the squad to try and make a claim for that position?

Would love it to be Kurt Zouma, good CB with bags of potential, but asking price would cripple any future purchases sadly

Aubameyang - 'I have met with Michael Laudrup, they have a good project, but I need Champions League to progress."

He wouldn't go to and neither would Kurt Zouma.

And this is based on what exactly?

The fact Michael Laudrup is meeting with transfer targets, such as Aubameyang and signing transfer targets, such as Jose Canas, suggests otherwise along with his comments that he will stay if he's given the money that the board have said they'll give him and the comments from his agent saying that he's happy at Swansea.

So is there anything to suggest Laudrup (not Martinez or Rodgers) wants to leave then?

No, I wish we wouldn't grasp at straws for the Laudrup stories sometimes, makes us look bitter.

I can't see us signing Aubameyang either.. He said he's looking for Champions League football to progress, which would rule him out of both South Wales clubs..

No I don't.

I believe direct quotes from Laudrup and players though, take away the agents quotes if you like - as whilst yes, they are just interested in money, telling teams that Laudrup is going to stay in Swansea isn't going to attract a move - but you can't deny that we're already involved in transfer negotiations for next season and the direct quotes from Laudrup.

This is the third time of me asking it now, is there anything to actually support these claims that Laudrup is going anywhere?

I do agree that if I goes, I won't mind as we've always pushed on in the past, but as everything has supported the fact he will so far.

There isnt an African Nations Cup next year because of the World Cup. That was the reason for staging the tournament in consecutive years, as they did in 2012 & 2013. From 2013 they are holding the tournament at odd years, hence the reason why the next African Cup of Nations in 2015.
