Martyn, if you are going up by train, get a return ticket to Cardiff bay. You will have to change at Cardiff Central and get a train to Queen Street Station. From there the train goes directly to the bay.
As you can see from the map that Gavin has posted there are two stations. If you are going to Barts exhibition (and I suspect you are) get off at the station at the bottom of the picture. (it's the last stop/terminus anyway)
The venue is only a couple of hundred yards from the station.
Sounds like a bit of a nightmare journey, but it's easy enough mate.

Or you can catch a 1,6,7,8 or 11 bus from town and it will take you to where you wanna go.

Its like tourist information ya!

Never taken a bus there, it's so easy just to change platforms and the trains are so frequent.
Cheaper too.
