He must give a fantastic interview

It strikes me as a similar situation to the Charlton/Curbishley situation a few years ago and look what happened to them.

I really can't see how Hughes will improve them or produce better results than Pullis.

All the Stoke fans who wanted Pullis out and for the club to move on to the next level will be throwing up in their cornflakes this morning

On the contrary, QPR aside, Hughes has done a good job wherever he has gone.

I wouldn't bet against a top 10 finish for Stoke next season, Hughes managed it with two similar sized clubs in Blackburn & Fulham.

If Malkay had left City I wouldn't have minded seeing Hughes take the reigns here.

Pre 04 - Only Wales Manager to get us close to qualifying for anything in last 20 years!

2004-05 - took over at Blackburn in September when they were in relegation trouble. Finished 15th with 42 points.

2005-06 - First full season at Blackburn. Finished 6th with 63 points. Qualified for UEFA Cup.

2006-07 - Blackburn. Finished 10th with 52 points.

2007-08 - Blackburn. Finished 7th with 58 points.

2008-09 - First full season with Man City. Finished 10th with 50 points.

2009-10 - Sacked by Man City in December with team lying in top four.

2010-11 - First and only season with Fulham. Finished 8th with 49 points. Qualified for Europa League through fair play.

2011-12 - Took over QPR in January with team 17th. Finished 17th with 37 points.

2012-13 - Sacked from QPR in November with team bottom of league.

Deluded? I don't think so.

Pre 04 - Only Wales Manager to get us close to qualifying for anything in last 20 years! Agreed, was good for Wales but Terry Yorath also got us close

2004-05 - took over at Blackburn in September when they were in relegation trouble. Finished 15th with 42 points. Agreed

2005-06 - First full season at Blackburn. Finished 6th with 63 points. Qualified for UEFA Cup. Agreed

2006-07 - Blackburn. Finished 10th with 52 points. Start of his downfall

2007-08 - Blackburn. Finished 7th with 58 points. poor Premier League that season

2008-09 - First full season with Man City. Finished 10th with 50 points. went there for the money and failed

2009-10 - Sacked by Man City in December with team lying in top four. exactly, was sacked

2010-11 - First and only season with Fulham. Finished 8th with 49 points. Qualified for Europa League through fair play. Inherited a team once again and was lucky

2011-12 - Took over QPR in January with team 17th. Finished 17th with 37 points. Had very good individual players that were his signings and couldn't motivate them to play as a team

2012-13 - Sacked from QPR in November with team bottom of league. I rest my case :D
I wouldn't want Hughes anywhere near our club but I would have him back as Wales boss over that other idiot Coleman.

Deluded? I don't think so.

but I do respect your opinion ;)

Yorath was 1993 wasn't it so that makes him closest in last 20 years :)

But fair enough points except 2007/08 wasn't a poor PL season, just had a very poor Derby County. In 07/08 we had 3 champions league semi finalists and both finalists!

Ok I guess it's a draw ;) I got nothing against Mark Hughes as a person, infact he's a very nice guy but I don't rate him as a manager.

The facts speak for themselves really so mjw your spot on, on past performance hes a decent manager and i wouldnt complain if he ever managed cardiff, look at qpr even with one of the best british managers they still struggled. Common sence really

Granted, on paper his record looks a lot better than it should.

He did well with Blackburn and to a certain extent with Wales.

But he bottled the play off against Russia, which would have qualified us for our only tournament since god knows when, with his negative tactics and formation.

He wasn't with Fulham for very long but turned their fans against him with his negative tactics.

During his spell with Man City he spent quite a bit of money but the progress wasn't good enough for the Sheik, he was probably unlucky to be sacked.

QPR was a disaster. He spent shitloads of money on mercenaries who couldn't be bothered to play for him. Deservedly sacked.

So maybe on paper is record is average but the brand of football his teams play is negative, defensive, dross :o and thats why Stoke City and Mark Hughes go very well together.
