WAS THERE A REASON BEHIND THE TWO-TONE RED KIT?

Wed May 29, 2013 6:37 pm

First and foremost I need to say I do not want to have a red kit as our home kit.

But we all knew it was going to red whether we wanted it or not.

But I am trying to figure why they went for the hideous two tone red over a more traditional and more fashionable red with another colour.

If we had entered the Premier League with this kit, would we have been accused of trying to be Man Utd?

Had we gone with this one, would we have been accused of trying to be Liverpool?

Or this one could we be Arsenal?

I don't know the answer and am certainly not trying to defend it but I am trying to figure out why we went with the two tone kit, is it that the club hoped to create something that was none of the above?

As I said earlier, we knew the kit would be red but what has been produced is poor to say the least, I hope that the club officials consider the outcry and opinions of its fans and at least make the obvious changes needed to at least make it look like a kit befitting of a professional football club.

Surely the shorts can be ditched and replaced with something more appropriate.

The two stripes on it looks like something from Matalan and I think and the collar part is hideous too.

Put blue shorts and trim ala Spain!

Can anyone photo shop that?

I read somewhere it was to avoid looking like the clubs you have mentioned there Carl.

If that is so then I am confused because did not Tan say wanted us to be a Man U/Liverpool for his marketing in the Far East?

How about if we'd kept blue/white/yellow as our home kit. There would have been no problems there!

Re: WAS THERE A REASON BEHIND THE TWO-TONE RED KIT?

Do you know, I created the kit with the white shorts and the one with the same colour red shorts and I now think they look awful since you likened them to Arsenal and Liverpool.

Perhaps the club were onto something and kept us from looking like one of the big three red teams.

I still don't like it though but now I don't know why.

I think the shorts being a different shade of red is the biggest fail, followed by the neck line which supposed to stand out but doesn't because the round neck and V neck are the same colour, and as you say the two stripes look like Primark or Gola.

I don't see how we could be accused of trying to look like United if we kept it black and red, that's what we used last season.

Owain, pointless us trying to go down that route right now as we know it is red again this season.

But we weren't in the same league this year.

Wayne, I think there may be some mileage in my thinking tbh.

oh please Carl. If we didnt want to look like anyonelse we should have gone in our traditional colours of blue white and yellow.

No one said to Swansea you are copying spurs when they went to the premier league.

We should have stuck with the red / black if we were to stay red as the main colour.

Indeed, but if we had it last year and are just carrying on with what we had...

What I hate the most is that I will STILL buy it. Collecting them for years and just cannot bring myself to stop.

Sod the shorts, I don't buy the whole kit anyway. Don't want to be a "full kit wanker"

What do you mean "oh please Carl", I am trying to think what the reasons behind the hideous design and that's the best I can come up with!

Maybe it is as simple as the designer and club officials are clueless but even so, there still has to be some thought going into he design, no matter how poorly thought out they are.

Easy answer is to say we should be blue, as that is what we all want but I am trying to figure out what the designer may have been thinking.

So please don't patronise me.

Maybe just maybe where the first of many to adopt this new two-tone style.

Re: WAS THERE A REASON BEHIND THE TWO-TONE RED KIT?

The red and black is my favourite one, I then like the all red one in the very similar one. Please Carl if you can if you get asked to go to any consoltation meetings or that with VT please pass on what we think is better.

I'm starting to think the new kit may have been better if the red short had slowly turned darker red as it met the shorts. I can't be arsed now so if someone wants to give it a go. :D

I like that owain the kit looks like its fusing Malaysian and Lebanese cultures together to reflect the new friendship between Vincent and Sam assuming of course that that's a Barcelona shirt hidden beneath the red shirt ;)

VT loves to be different and if he is going to catch the eye of the Far Eastern fan then he needs to bookmark us by doing something radical with the home kit.

I'm not saying it will work but for heavens sake it don't half make a talking point and is already being picked up by National newspapers in this country and Far Eastern ones will follow very quickly.
