A message to Everton fans from their club officials

A regrettable bank holiday weekend

It has been a full-on weekend for many Evertonians and undeniably you have spoken to us loudly and clearly. We have listened. Several meetings and countless discussions have taken place. And, we have reached a decision; a decision that starts with an apology.

We are sorry.

It is clear that you wanted to be involved in the selection of our new Club Crest. We agree with you and we are sorry we spoiled so many weekends. We regret we didn't ask every Evertonian about something that matters so much to every one of you.

It is also clear that whilst the Fans' Forum is an excellent and effective group of representative fans, they faced too big a burden speaking for the entire fan-base on something so significant. It is only right that we thank them for their impartial and valuable contribution.

A reminder of what we were trying to achieve

We remain firm in the belief that our Crest should be modernised - not a unique or unprecedented situation and one we know our fans would accept and embrace. Effective logos are simple and streamlined. Simplicity achieves stand-out recognition. This was our starting point for our new Crest.

Our solution, in a globalised, technology-led world - was to present one word, loudly and clearly - EVERTON, along with a truly representative Everton Turret, better than it ever has been done before. Feedback has not been universally negative. Many of you have agreed we delivered on those objectives.

Indisputably, ‘Nil Satis' has been the most controversial ‘casualty' of the new Crest. But never was it a casualty. Not for one second would we ever consider dropping the fundamental statement of belief from our Club. It always has been, it is, and it always will be what our Club stands for - the permanent link in our DNA. Across Goodison Park and in our Club shop, ‘Nil Satis' will always be living and breathing in everything we do.

Our rigorous process, our thoughts, our benchmarking, our homework and our design work is set out at evertonfc.com/crestevolution.

Putting it right

Robert Elstone, CEO, says: "Clearly the weekend's response has meant that we have reviewed how we went about the whole of the re-design process and whilst many objectives were achieved, we recognised we missed the key part out. Our Chairman had demanded widespread consultation and we stopped short of that. We talked to our Fans' Forum, our commercial partners and our experienced staff around the Club. That was not enough.

"We want to put this right. Whilst the time-constraints of kit suppliers in particular present challenges, which inevitably means the version released on Saturday will be in operation for the 2013/14 season, we are determined to give our fans a greater say in how we represent the Club on our jerseys, at Goodison Park and across media around the world.

"In advance of the 2014/15 campaign, we are turning to you to help us shape and refine the badge we'll adopt in the future. Evertonians from all sections of the fan-base will be pulled together in a fully transparent way. This group will conduct an in-depth review of all aspects of past and present Club Crests. The panel will then develop ideas and put forward suggestions to you. Evertonians will make the final decision.

"We have worked hard over recent years to give our fans a greater sense of involvement in the Club and dialogue flows openly and freely in many areas from the Fans' Forum, to Supporters' Clubs and of course, via Everton in the Community. We will ensure the same happens with the future development of your Club Crest."

Details on how the panel will be comprised and selected will appear in late summer.

This is what should've happened with us

difference is they are a bigger club and are not in a shit tonne of debt and if their owner walked out on them there wouldnt be a big chance of them going bust, comparing that to ours is a non starter for me :ayatollah:

And that's how it's done properly !
Cardiff city take note
Fans loyal to the club , the club loyal to its fans ! Exactly how it should be :notworthy:
Well done Everton

Their existence wasn't threatened, no one wanted to stand up for us, just thought f**k it let's hate Tan but not protest or anything. Or when protests were organised you all cried because Gwyn apparently came in and threatened.

Everton have been in financial trouble for a few years they are just scraping by , that's why they've been looking for investors !

Everton in January reported a debt of 46 million and are losing 5-9 mill a year ! That point is pointless everton and there owner are in huge trouble without an investor .

Whether they are a bigger club or not is irrelevant , they will still listen to their fans as they are who pay their wages at the end of the day , fans are the ones clubs should be looking after , they buy merchandise not players or chairmen , you should give them what they/we want. it should be the same at this club or any other club

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

There's a HUGE difference between Everton's and Cardiff's situation though.

Cardiff were bribed and threatened to go along with the changes, deluding fans into thinking that they won't have a club to follow if they protest.

Everton weren't bribed or threatened.

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

Same promises as our club last year

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

Tue May 28, 2013 6:14 pm

also their owner loves their club and has been in football for years, ours hasnt and doesnt understand it. evertons future is a hell of a lot more secure than ours. i am honestly in shock people are trying to compare this to ours

They don't care about the fans, there still going ahead with the change saying its to late to change for the forthcoming season.that's bullshit, the fans should have had a say from the beginning.there only worried about the bad publicity not the fans.

There fans did have a say !
They asked forums , supporters groups , commercial partners and staff about the changes it obviously wasnt enough !
People need to read the full story of this instead of just presuming !
Obviously they thought fans would be happy with the change after the consultations and have ordered kits , merchandise and registered the badge with the league allready so its too late as they said !
A club has actually done the right thing by apologising and telling the truth and they get ripped into  shows they can't win either way

they presumed every one would like.they now say they should have asked every fan and gave a grovelling apology.that says it all.

No it says they consulted different groups but now realise they should have gone further ! What are they supposed to do ask every single fan ?

Yes,and that's what they say there going to do in future.

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

I can't believe people are comparing this to our situation. Nothing alike.

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

All the excuses coming out already. There are none, they stood up to it and got a compromise decision and thats that. The problem with us there is no compromise decision. Its give us our blue back or not good enough. Sorry, but if thats your attitude you'll get nothing.

Hollow statement, which just basically says, sorry for not talking to you, but were still going ahead anyway.

Why the hell didnt we push to sort the badge out for this season we had loads of time last season. Pushing for a new badge is much more realistic target than a change to blue so this needs to be sorted first imo

Re: A message to Everton fans from their club officials

Tue May 28, 2013 7:11 pm

Everton fans didn't ask for their old badge back but a badge that included their motto.

Next season they will be given a consultation on that badge and it will be a modernised badge that suits Everton and a badge that includes the clubs motto that suits the fans. There's the f*cking compromise and if you cant see it then I honestly lose hope with you.

Everton fans not compromising would have been 'GIVE US OUR OLD BADGE BACK OR ELSE' but they didn't do that. They used a bit of bloody intelligence and asked for something obtainable, not the impossible. Set your goals within reach and you just might get them.

The goal of our pro blues - GIVE US OUR HISTORY BACK OR ILL NEVER GO AGAIN

This is not going to achieve anything as a compromise to suit all parties needs to be reached. If you cant accept a compromise you'll never get anything you want. Tan has his beliefs, you have your historical views on our identity, its of value to appreciate both sides of the argument to move forward as a solitary unit.

You can ask for extreme all you like but with the current situation we find ourselves in its the impossible dream.

FFS how is it impossible asking to keep their current badge

100% spot on mate. They're chasing the impossible dream. Tan is not going to cater to an extreme viewpoint. Its the equivalent of Churchill asking Hitler to wake up one morning and become a liberalist. Its just not happening.

Yes they would, and what do you think they would have done if they were all given a free badge? the pitch would have been covered with them..
