OT - AMAZON ACCOUNTS

Fri May 24, 2013 12:29 pm

Just had my credit card bill and I noticed that Amazon had charged me £49 - when I queried this they said that as I had not opted out of their "premium delivery" service after a trial period had expired they debited my account.

I told them that I had never used this service, never even knew of the "trial period" and that I wanted my money back - which they have had for over 30 days. I will be getting the refund but anyone that uses Amazon should check to see whether this has happened to you, as I imagine this could affcet 1000s of people. I mentioned to them as well even if they do refund the monies just think of the interest that they have earned on this!!!

Amazon Prime.

I guess you signed up during the free trial and didn't realise that you got that offer. You get 1 day delivery with Prime.

Well worth it if you have a Kindle, otherwise not really.

Prime gets you 1 day delivery on things from Amazon - movies, book rentals, etc.

I do share your anguish though and think its disgusting that they let free trials run into premium plans without first sending you an email to accept that transition of account type.

I've heard about a lot of noobs doing this. It annoys me that they act like victims. Always read before you click.

I made great use of the free trial, and cancelled after 29 days :thumbright:

I use Amazon a lot and have saved more than double the £49 annual fee for "Prime" in standard delivery charges for each year I have had the membership. When I signed up for the free trial I had an email to confirm the duration of the trial and then had a email asking me to confirm I wanted the product.

After that the annual payment becomes a "Reccuring" payment against your registered debit/credit card and if you want to cancel membership you can do it through the "Your Account" section.

I think Amazon Prime is good value for money but only if you use Amazon a lot.

"ABE" - thanks for that but I think he was trying to call me a "knob" - I do not ask anyone to do anything for me I sort it myself ;)

Just trying to point out this £49 fee that may have affected others who do not use Amazon enough to benefit from this "offer"

Amazon acting disgracefully yet again.

It amazes me that the public still make use of this cheating low life organisation.

Well if you take notice of an explanation where they cannot even spell correctly, what does taht make you?

The so called definition still has no bearing on what I initially commented on!

Calling someone a "noob" is not abuse. Don't be upset.

Hardly, you have to sign up and accept the £49 charge to use prime. If you don't want it don't sign for it. I don't see the problem.

I have sporadically used amazon for at least 7 years, as far as I am aware never asked to sign up and never had next day delivery - also now looks like I have got "slightly" more than my £49 back ;)
