Cardiff City stars David Marshall and Craig Conway have been rewarded for their excellent Championship form with call-ups for Scotland's World Cup qualifier squad to face Croatia next month.

Prolific Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths (on loan from Wolves) has also been called up by Gordon Stracham for the match in Zagreb on June 7.

There are also first call-ups for Celtic’s Tony Watt and Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong, as well as Gordon Greer of Brighton and Aberdeen’s Ryan Jack.

Griffiths’ performances this season saw him pick up a number of end of season awards.

Strachan said: “Over the last couple of seasons he has decided he wants to improve and get better and he has done that.

“People can help you on your way to become better but your career is entirely in your own hands.

“At this moment he is shaping a good career.

“He was unfortunate, he was very close to being in the squad the last time.

“This time he has achieved that.”

One notable absentee from the squad is former Bluebirds striker Kenny Miller, while another former Bluebird Chris Burke, is involved.

Strachan said: “Kenny has been injured for over a month with a hamstring problem.

“I spoke to Kenny last week and it would be better for him to rest his hamstring because he could come over here and there’s no guarantee that he would play.

“We will see him in the next squad and he’s happy with that.”

Definitely deserved a call up, maybe not a cap though.

Well deserved.

I get asked quite a few questions up here about our Scottish contingent. Had a few asks about Cowie and explained he's been on the Bench a fair bit this season.

Conways been class in the second half of the season and Marsh is best keeper we've had for years.

On a side note Griffiths has been quality for my Scottish team Hibs and his call up is well deserved as well.

Agree with Griffiths finally gettin a call up, he's really on form just now and I hope Hibs can sort something out with Wolves to keep him up here. Seems to have matured this season.

Also pleased to see Ryan Jack getting a look in, he's been one of the few stand outs for Aberdeen, in a number of positions.

Leigh has been outstanding. I shudder to think where Hibs would be without him. I understand that Wolves have taken out the extra year option on his contract but this seems to be because otherwise they would have to let him go for free where s if he has got a year left then they will at least get some money for him. He wants to stay and I hope it happens. Hibs have some good youngsters coming through, the boy Harris is a revelation!

I like the look of Harris to be fair, big future ahead!
