Last Nights Fights.

Can't believe how unfit and unprepared Lee Purdy was.

Very unprofessional :old:

Also, now Lucas Matheysse has seriously announced himself on the world scene by brutally knocking out Lamont Peterson(Previously never stopped) surely that pushes Amir's chances of getting a title shot even further away.

Whilst the idea of Lucas V Danny Swift Garcia is truly mouthwatering ...

How you can describe any fighter as "A Pussy" knowing the self discipline and sacrifices they endure, along with the physical demands of what is still one of the hardest sports to be successful in, pretty much sums you up as a bit of an Idiot.

You may not like or rate Amir, but to label him a pussy is way wide of the Mark.

I don't rate him highly but I respect and admire him for constantly trying to prove and better himself.

listen, the truth about kahn is, and please anyone with boxing knowledge, will agree, is kahn cannot take a punch, the kids got heart, but when your getting hit, and he cant take it, he will never be considered a great, he may win a title, but sadly, come any true challenger and kahn will lose it.

How the hell can you say hes unprofessional!!!

They guy took the fight at 4 weeks notice. Thats at least half and probably 2/3rds shorter than his usual camp, and he wasnt in traininig prior to taknig the call. He knew it was going to be down to the wire with weight, He looked poor due to the step up in class from anything hes ever fought, and the fact that he was drained from trying to make weight before Barry Hearn pulled him up and told him not to bother because you would do more damage than good.

His manager not being in the corner wasnt the best prep, as up until 24hrs before he still wasnt sure if it was going to be darren barker or Tony Sims.

But he took the fight as how often do you get a world title shot?? Its win win still, as even with the defeat, he has fought in the states, and will step up from his usual fights now that hes had a world shot.

Dont call someone unprofessional if you dont know the full story.

Mathysse will hammer Garcia. Good too. Then he will fight and perhaps beat Mayweather at a make weight.

As for Purdy, you can't hammer on him too much he was a last minute replacement.

You have to question his corner tho, seeing as he missed weight by 1 pound :?: :?: :?:

Not a pussy, but terrible chin.

Re: Last Nights Fights.

Mon May 20, 2013 1:29 am

He missed by under a pound in the end, he could have probably sweated it out and made weight, but its not good for the health. He took the fight because it was a championship fight, big big money for what he's used to even with the fines. He obviously thought he could win as any fighter would, but realistically he took the fight for the payday and the outside chance. So pushing to make the weight and damaging his health wasn't worth it in the end, he could of become so dyhydrated it would have made him look a laughing stock in the ring.

I don't know how you can say kahn has a bad chin, he took some huge punches last time out, he's taken some big punches throughout, he's only ever gone down to big punches. Not that I think he's a good fighter, but he's fun to watch.

Are they really big punches though? That one on the neck from Garcia for example.

I think Kahn would have probably been knocked out by some of the upper cuts Purdy took last night.

Just the type of shot that it was, Hes taken huge shots from Maidana and stood well. Same as in his last fight.

I admit that now i expect khan to go down each fight, but thats because his defence is non existant compared to alot of top fighters, and everyone knows before the fight that hes open to that one punch each time. but i wouldnt say thats down to his chin or his punch resistance

I think you will find it's Eddie Hearn, not Hurn  also I'm guessing you're some keyboard warrior with very little knowledge of the sport who is just upset because Amir hasn't faced Kelly.

At the moment Kell still isn't on the Elite's Radar, but I feel he will be shortly.

Amir has a bigger problem than his punch resistance, and that is not fighting to his strengths. If he boxed off the back foot(at a distance ) with his hand speed and foot work he would win most fights rather easily. Instead he always tries to prove he can take and give a punch, and more often than not he gets proved wrong.

My Very unprofessional remark was aimed at everything about Purdy not just his performance. I accept he was a late call up and only had a fraction of a proper training camp, but when you consider that his management and trainers had problems (his 1st corner man didn't even have a visa) and they knew mentally and physically he wasn't ready for a fight or step up of this magnitude, that was a mistake by Matchroom (who are normally very thorough).

No I'd tell you straight to your face over a pint if i seen you so no keyboard warrior ,used to be a weekend warrior before I met the mrs  I have been a boxing fan for years but most recently converted to more an mma fan but still follow the boxing and there needs to be more bigger fights and to many boxers duck out of fights for me for their own gains and because their afraid of losing, in the ufc you fight who your told, and if this was enforced in boxing I don't think khan would be as famous as he is now. Yeh he got good boxing ability but he is way over rated imo and there's a lot of people out there who would knock him out but ofcourse because he can pick and choose his opponents can't he that's why he hasn't fought kell yet because he's afraid of losing getting knocked out and taking a massive dent to his reputation, that's why I don't like khan, ok he trains hard and is dedicated but so would anyone if it was your job and you also got payed loads of money for it, maybe calling him a pussy is harsh but you know where I'm coming from.

I ain't seen the purdy fight yet but he was always gonna be out of his depth and class against Alexander, hopefully kell brook get to fight him soon and put on a good fight

I used to give Khan the benefit of the doubt but he is a big headed tw*t who thinks he is a higher level than he is.

One thing I cant stand in sport is a bad loser and whenever he has lost hes always got some bollocks excuse.

As has already been said on here he cant take a punch, and the level he thinks he is you cant box on the back foot for 12 rounds and not expect to be caught.

Looking forward to Frochy on Saturday night, my favourite British boxer of my generation.

How can giving a fighter his best ever pay day be a mistake, even if fully prepared he would have still been a huge underdog with the bookies. But he's had American exposure, fought on big tv boxing channels both sides of the pond and didn't have a 0 to defend so it was basically a freebie fight to get an eye opener to elite level boxing. Think it was actually a great move by matchroom.

Will be a hell of a fight sat, was never a huge froch fan, thought he was a bit of a bell for calling joe out non stop, it's the same if groves called froch out not, they were huge class differences. But remember watching him fight pascal on an itv fight, and he just threw everything, then the Taylor fight, and now I'd feel gutted if I missed a fight of his.

Went to watch klitschkos last fight and cost 100e for a basic ticket, so froch doesn't price everyone out either.

Re: Last Nights Fights.

Cakey MMA is all governed by the same body. There are different bodies, but essentially Dana White has the major monopoly.
That's why personally I appreciate what Hearn and Golden boy are trying to do which is what Frank Warren and Top Rank have been avoiding. Get as much of the best all under your banner and make the fights. Had Pac been with ODH and GB he would've fought Mayweather Years ago. To many different promotions and governing bodies for any one fighter to have a legitimate claim.

I love the way he never shirks a fight and stand and goes toe to toe. Got a chin like granite.

The Super Six series was superb and now he has gone on to another level since.

I think he comes across quite well in the media, confident without being a big head.

Super 6 was superb, just a little drawn out with injuries, would have loved it all to happen at a mega stadium, ie wembley, detriots stadium, anywhere but atlantic city! each round of fights the same night one after each other straight knock out format. Seedlings down by ring magazine rankings. Each fight 12 weeks after the last. If you're cut/injured and can't make the next fight then the guy you beat gets put back in.
Because Allan green being in the tournament was a joke.

Like the thought of the fighters at the same venue like prizefighter seeing what they are up against in a few weeks time.

Think a super 6 is ready made for middleweight or the welterweights now.
