Probably an upgrade on Cowie but I wouldn't expect him to feature much if we recruit the players we really need. Midfield is probably our strongest area so would prefer to see us linked with defenders and strikers. Also would prefer to be linked with younger players who may have a resale value rather than bringing in experienced players on higher wages who we won't be able to shift if we get relegated.

surely we need to build our team up slowly (like Norwich have), he has bags of experience knows the league , if we just go down the route of signing mega stars (QPR) we will go straight back down.

I heard West ham have let him go.

He was class when he was with us on loan but that was so many years ago.

On a free, he would add to the squad. I'd say our squad has more need to strengthen in our areas first though.

Hardly would be a signing to inspire though.

A player that will work hard and put the shift in for the team with a bit of quality, this basically sums our whole squad as it is now. To be capable of giving teams a game in the top flight we must mix hard work with directness and quality. I'd happily take O'neil but as long as malky has a few quality attacking players in mind as well.

I'd take him on a reduced wage, but tbh he will be nowhere near as good as he was back in 2004!

Over 150 premier league appearances, would certainly add that needed experience to the squad.

Excelled as a player since coming out to us for experience early in his career.

Don't see how he would improve our midfield, plus he is 30.

If we are going to sign players 30 or over I would hope they would be of a bit better caliber than G O'N.

Yes he was quality when he was on loan with us but that was 9 years ago now and at Championship level.

Would not be an underwhelming signing to me but that is just my opinion gentlemen.

He is not a Premier League Regular as you say.

In the last 5 years he has only played 25 Premier League Matches.

And the last time he played over 20 games in the Premiership was for Boro who were relegated.

A player on the way down in my opinion but as I said its just that, my opinion, not saying im right.
