Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet and his assistant Mauricio Taricco have been suspended with immediate effect and informed to stay away from the club. BBC Sport's Ben Smith reports the club are conducting an internal investigation into whether Poyet may have breached his contract by making a series of comments in the wake of this week's play-off defeat by Crystal Palace. It is understood that once the board had learned that Poyet had told his players that he could offer no guarantees about his future at the club, they took the decision to suspend him with immediate effect.

Gus Poyet has been suspended by Brighton after an alleged breach of contract.

The Uruguayan lead the Seagulls into the Championship play-offs, but lost the semi-final to bitter rivals Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Poyet had been linked with a move away from the Amex Stadium this summer with Everton and Fulham among the interested clubs, it now looks like he will leave the club.
Assistant manager Mauricio Taricco and first-team coach Charlie Oatway have also been suspend.

The club confirmed the news in a statement, it read: 'Brighton & Hove Albion has confirmed that it has suspended its manager, assistant manager, and its first team coach from their duties.

'The club will now follow its internal procedures with regard to this matter and will make no further comment at this time.'
