Yeah, because 115 goals in 244 Premier League games is terrible, isn't it?

101 goals in 238 premier league games is not a bad record mind. Especially considering quite a few of those games he came off the bench during the two seasons he played for spurs.

People need to be reminded Villa won't play him to avoid paying Sunderland off?

Last season as Villa he scored 9 goals, 10/11 season he scored 8 for Sunderland and 9 for Villa (total 17), 09/10 season he scored 24, 08/09 season he scored 12 goals, 07/08 he scored 6 goals and the 06/07 season he scored 14 goals.

So to suggest he has had 1 good season is completely untrue and he is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

He has fell out of favour at Villa for some reason and Benteke has filled the gap brilliantly. But I think Bent still has a lot to offer a club, especially one who have just won promotion and could score goals to help us survive.

However, it would depend on how much Villa and Bent would want.

Hes on 65k a week :ayatollah:

Re: darren bent??

really dont think we should be paying over 40/45k per week for players at this stage. We need to not get carried away.

Someone like bent would be ideal though, he virtually guarentees goals

Stop talking nonsense. He has a 1 in 2 ratio at PL level over a period of years.

Darren Bent is still a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker at Premiership level if played regularly. If we could get him for say, 5 million and 50k a week wages, he would be worth every penny as his goals would keep us up. We could also sell him on for a big profit after his good season with us if we wanted to as well.

If Villa say he's available, we would be stupid not to look into the possibility of signing him. He's a natural goalscorer at Premiership level who would surely at least think about joining us for the regular first team football he isn't currently getting at Villa?

I'm not saying Malky wouldn't go for him if he become available, but how can you say he is guaranteed to score 20 goals a season , no player is guaranteed that :o

Darren Bent is, look at his strike rate over the years, his goals per minute ratio. Darren Bent is a natural goalscorer at Premiership level and a newly promoted club in our position at the moment will not be able to bring in anyone like Darren Bent usually. For us to turn down the opportunity to try and sign a player like this would be stupid imo. Darren Bent is the one player we should break the bank for this season as unlike Fraizer Campbell and Nicky Maynard, Darren Bent has shown throughout the years that he does always regularly score goals at Premiership level.

My point was, is it's not guaranteed he would score 20+ goals a season,if he was one of the top four clubs would have him

That's because at Tottenham, Bent was competing against Berbatov, Defoe and Robbie Keane, who could all score as many goals as him at the time. Berbatov ended up going to Man Utd because he was a world class striker. But when Bent has played for lesser Premiership teams, he has consistantly scored and been sold for big money. The current situation with Villa is strange, Villa won't play him much because they will have to pay Sunderland an extra 5 million apparantly, and Benteke is an incredible find. But in our first season in the Premiership, we need a reliable striker to score the goals to give us a chance and I don't think we can get anyone better for this than Darren Bent.

If we didn't have Campbell and Maynard I might have said yes but too similar to what we've got and the priority should be a big man

Bent and Campbell are on the same holiday, wonder the words being exchanged between the two when it comes to football ;)
