Charlie Austin

Thu May 16, 2013 8:12 am

This guy will keep us up next season, he's physical, fast and has a brilliant eye for goal. He could be our "Jay Rodriguez" . I think £6 million would be the highest I'd bid, maybe cheaper because Burnley will want funds fast you build for a promotion run. He was in the top 3 goal scorer, would be a brilliant but, Gestede the other way?

If we want to send Gestede the other way we may have to look at a striker in the Blue SQ Conference North

Austin will go Sunderland or Norwich.

Re: Charlie Austin

He would be a good signing for sure, however he may well choose an PL established club rather than a club that have just come up.

Rudy did well last year but he should come off the wage bill asap as he's not PL quality.

How many BSQCN strikers would score 5 goals in 23 games (most sub) at Championship level in the target man role.

Gestede would be an asset to any Championship side next season.

What's odd about Gestede is if you look at his play V West Ham, his goals V Forest (albeit V ten men) he has ability. Yet he can be so anonymous in games he becomes a drain on the team. But yeah, championship loan is about the best he can hope. He'll be remembered fondly though.

Leicester (CC) got the goal to keep us in the game.

Goal vs Ipswich in the 2-2 draw.

Him battering the Liverpool defence.

Class performance v Peterboro at home on Valentines day when we won 3-1 and he scored.

Goal that got us the win v Millwall.

Point v Leicester.

Goals against Forest.

Every sub apperance he changes the game. :ayatollah:

I watched the game and whilst an exaggeration it isn't a myth. Gestede was superb that day and did his job of giving the Liverpool defence a hard time very well.

Ive also watched it a number of times and its the biggest myth since the Loch Ness monster.

I dont think he finds one of our own players once and the ball just kept coming back, and coming back, and coming back......

You may have missed the times his presence forced errors from Liverpool and the work he put in all game long then.

Anyhow, my argument isn't that Rudy is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It's that he is capable at Championship level. That is proven by his goal record and several good performances.

You are the one talking claptrap by calling him 'Blue Square North' standard which is an awful thing to say about a player who has contributed well during the season we finally made it to the Premier League.

Nah, dont think so. hH may have confused them once or twice as he didnt know what he was trying to do himself.

His goal record? 1 in 10 league goals :?

He scored one or two goals. Whoopee doo. Thats his job. Im more concerned with how easy he gives possession away as he cannot trap a bag of cement and the chances he snatches at.

He scored 5 in 23 last season (mostly off the bench) and another two goals the previous season having spent much of it injured.

I completely disagree with you, whilst he is far from a perfect player and not really Premier League standard (though he could do a job once or twice from the bench) he would be an asset to any Championship side taking him on loan next season. Given a full season I think he could at least hit double figures.

Re: Charlie Austin

Big deal he can hit double figures. Theres players in the championship hitting nearly 30 goals a season.

But hey, every side in the championship needs a Rudy Gestede

His general play that day was really good. But it's a good example how how much rawer he looks now compared to then. Like I say he has his moments, then nothing and he's a hindrance.

He wasnt even aiming for Kenny Miller with that pass ffs

Hes a nuisance last 10 if we need a goal and just want to cause panic but his all round play is poor and he has no composure whatsoever.

I agree overall he's better fresh v tired. He was ok V what was, lets face it, a poor Liverpool side (our best XI this season would have pissed that Liverpool team in the League Cup final). But you can't see Gestede making any impact on our squad next season unless its coupled with "and were in the bottom three." But in his first few months he looked like he had infinitely more potential than he does now.

Agree. certainly can't start him, but in my opinion he gives defenders the willies.

I've heard a few managers and pundits bigging him up saying how impressive he was (Dalgleish singled him out for sure).
Personally, I think he's unpredictable. And it's that quality that can make him unplayable as defenders struggle to gauge and read what he's going to do. That combined with his physical presence is what makes his place in the squad worthwhile.
Bang him on to ruffle some feather for 20-25 minutes. Perfect.
