Lone Striker or 2 Upfront?

Wed May 15, 2013 7:16 pm

In general in modern football this day in age do you think it's better to win and have success with a lone striker or two strikers playing in your starting 11?
The reason I ask this question aswell is what do you think will be the best strategy for us next season and which do you think we will see the most of? Or will it be a mixture of a lone striker and 2 upfront? Opinions?

Personally I prefer watching a team with 2 strickers saying that I think we will play with one up front most of next season as we will pick up more points playing 4-5-1 than we would playing 4-4-2

I think Malky will play the formation he thinks will get a result rather than a set formation :malky:

Yeh, off the top of my head I don't think I can think of any top teams that play 2 upfront anymore though? Can anyone think of any examples?

2 upfront every time.

Can you think of any teams who play two up front effectively though and do well with it?

What've they won recently?

To be fair though they don;t play a traditional 442, it's very much one striker sat behind the other.

I don't think I've seen them play 2 up top? It's always van persie up top with either kagawa or Rooney behind them and Rooney sometimes playing centre midfield or out wide, so van persie a lone striker really?

United play a 4411. Never play 2 up top unless Hernandez is brought on and Rvp says on with him. 442 has gone as far as it can, the game had evolved from it.

Id like us to play 451 with high tempo pass and move and lots f width. But we don't have the players to play anything other than long ball in the prem.

Yeah cos 4-4-2 in the past was always 2 players playing in an equal line with each other was it

In most cases it was always one playing slightly behind the other. Dalglish slightly behind Rush, Yorke slightly behind Cole, Bergkamp behind Henry. No-one called it 4-4-1-1 then it was 4-4-2. :sleepy2:

In a 4-4-2 the stikers don't hold a line like centre backs.

You alway shave one who'll push play on from deeper inside and one who'll play further up and be the 'poacher'
Looks like a 4-4-1-1 but is a 4-4-2 as they're both strikers.

But they never used to bulk the midfield either, that's why it was never called a 4411. Dalglish and Yorke would never fill in centre midfield as these players in this position do now. But since you always have to be right you can now tell me different

Oh paaaaaalease. Man United do not "bulk" the midfield in the same way that Chelsea who DO play a lone striker do. Certainly not at home they dont.

Rooneys position is no different whatsoever to Bergkamps or Dalglish or Yorke.

I think we would be more successful next season playing 4-5-1 but I would rather us be successful playing 4-4-2 as I find it more entertaining :ayatollah:

So why is Rooney found defending deep in his own half during games when needed. He tracks back just as a midfielder does when he fills in

Striker in tracking back shocker

He said it as if Rooney is the only one. Rooney just gets noted for it because the commentators in the UK cream over him.

So, Van Persie who's a lone striker right?

Why was he tracking back against Aston Villa? One of his more notable times. he's done it no end of teams through the season as has Rooney who has sat deeper as a striker.
