Surely more likely to expand existing sections back than put another tier on , like readings ground they go all the way to the top ours stops at the wall ?

Ours is designed to take a 2nd tier but an 8 week turnaround suggest removal of the back walls and extra rows of seats thats a much quicker turnaround.

It's been built like mecarno, it's quite a simple expansion - the roof comes off and the extra tier goes in. The stadium was designed like that from day 1 so that it could grow at the same rate as the club.

But this expansion is just a few extra seats. The club have already confirmed that the big expansion (2nd tier) won't be until next season (if we stay up)

That's what I would have thought !
Thinking about it there's about 25 seats per row in each section , 8 sections to the ninian stand is 200 people that's would mean we would need at least 25 new rows to add 5k to the capacity ! I doubt there's room for that unless they do it all the way round the ground to the back wall .

I doubt any interim expansion will be anymore than 2,500 which screams out extra rows. I just hope it's not at the expense of a future 2nd tier.

Highly unlikely there'll be extra rows added right up to the back like Reading's. Look at where I highlighted in the picture below, if you knock that wall down and build up to the back you would have all the steel girders obstructing the view of those sitting in the new seats, take those girders out and the roof will be straight down. :laughing6:

I was speaking to CCFC stadium staff member about it a few weeks back, he said the roof will come of over the Ninian stand, then the roof supports are just unbolted raised a number of meters then the tier is fitted and the roof goes back on. It's quite a simple process as its been designed specifically to do it. It could easily have been done during the closed season, and Tan was very keen, but the Bon Jovi concert is the reason it couldn't be done this year.

There was a picture on here in the past with the canton having a top tier, cannot for the life of me find it, but I think that's the better looking plan.

Hiya mate! If the process really is 6-8 weeks then 8 weeks from the date of the Bon Jovi concert (June 12th) Would be August 7th. Really we could have upto 9 weeks to complete it as the season don't start 'til August 17th but how would this affect health and safety regulations when we play home pre-season friendlies?

Rhys, to be honest unless Real Madrid or Barca came, we won't sell out a friendly.

That's true, my guess is they'd close off blocks 110 - 120/121.

It's a very tight schedule, but might be possible if they really wanted to do it Rhys

Rhys, as a mod can you search for that pic, it was a pic of a Possible 2nd tier on the Canton. Looked realistic and possible a good idea.

That's it!! Cheers kid. I honestly feel this would be simple todo.

Are there actually any extra seats on that picture? It looks like the back rows have been raised but you couldn't stand or see underneath that tier because it is so low.

Re: Re : new stadium expansion design

Tue May 14, 2013 9:24 pm

Looking at existing photos it looks like we might lose up to 4 rows from the back of the lower tier but be able to match the 14 rows in level 4 on the top tier. So net increase of at least 10 rows. That's got to be worth about 6,000 extra seats

There is a single row of black/very dark blue seats all the way around the back of the stadium. This is the ONLY row that will be removed if a 2nd tier is added. I tried to buy seats there as was told that this row will have first choice on the front row of the 2nd tiers. Nice view.

so you've actually been told that there will be another tier adding if the ticket office told you that you'd have 1st choice for the front of the new tier?

No, not the ticket office and at the time it was being touted as a "never gonna happen scenario"' but should a second tier go on the back row season ticket holders would need moving and they could have the front row of the 2nd tier. It was a construction "chat" I had.

I'm assuming that the new tear will be a overhang tier that will mean the last few rows of the lower tier will have a over head or a ceiling if you like. This will probably improve the atmosphere in the ground as it'll keep the sound in! :ayatollah:
