Doberman puppies

I am getting one middle of june, my mrs had one years ago so she knows the breed, just wondering if anyone on here owns one and can give me tips etc ?

1st pup ?
If so you can get any dog toilet trained within 2 weeks let them out 30 mins after food and drink and when they are sleeping lift them up while they are sleeping and put them straight outside they will go to the toilet after just bee woke all the time at that age.
If they have accidents just a firm NO (only if you see them do it), never hit them on the nose they don't understand why you hit them and they become fearful of you , and they will start to eat their own poop to hide it from you .
Thats the main thing you want to train them with 1st

Had 2 dobermans for years. Great dogs but need to be trained well mate. This ain't a dog for your run of the mill household. Treat it like a child and it will have you running in circles and take advantage of you.

As another poster has said, they respond well to being told no firmly and stand your ground. If they growl dont give in or cower as its just a test of dominance and you need to be the one in control. You should also know that your dog after years will see you as the alpha male but will align itself to protect your wife unbelievably. My dog will listen to my father best of all because he is the one who aserts dominance so the dog does as he is told then but will just sit at the foot of my mum or whatever as her protector. Its mad but a good thing.

Make sure to it for walks early on to get used to it otherwise it will try to take the pee and pull you along. Amount of people I've seen being walked by their dog as mine just walks along peacefully is madness.

The most important thing, be prepared for the impossible. If you have a 7 ft fence in your garden your doberman once an adult will be over that faster than spiderman on acid if he/she hears the slightest noise. Its incredible but you'll think how the hell did they do that but the doberman is a VERY INTELLIGENT breed and they work things out on their own through being inquisitive.

My male doberman used to climb upon to the fence then across the shed and jumps down into the field behind the house before we blocked the route off. Its the things like this though that will amaze you and will make your time with your doberman better IMO as its interesting to see what they can do and they're a good loyal breed that responds well to a good dominant owner but its no mug and if you dont show it who's boss when young you will be sorry in the future whether its through a bite or just general bad behaviour.

By far the best dog breed I have ever had. Work with it and you'll be rewarded greatly.

Also, when a dobe is on heat mate nothing you can do. It will be just as grumpy as any sexually frustrated man.

This is a very good guide mate. The problem is mate too many people treat the Dobe like a domesticated dog they can faff about with as if its some cute little dog but it will just make your life a misery if you do that. Dobes, like some humans even, respond well to an authoritative figure.

not the same but i bought myself a staff puppy when i was 20 living on my own with my mrs and hes turned out great and hes 4 now everyone is amazed how well behaved he is other than he runs after dogs to play with them!! all i ever did is watch the dog whiseper on tv and read a few books on that and the breed then just mainted consistency with them, a routine and assert dominance and dont give in. theres been occasions where ive been sat there for an hour or so refusing to back down with him, it drove my mrs nuts but it paid off in the end! best of luck, dogs are usually never the problem, its the owner. so look after it and put the time it and itll be the best thing you ever do!

I'm hoping to get a nice German pinscher/mini pinscher next may! Had a Doberman when I grow up was a great dog, heard they are hard work but you get out what you put in! The mrs dosent fancy a full size one tho

Some good advice on here. Much more enjoyable reading than all the insults, transfer rumours in other threads.
The sooner the season starts and the transfer window is closed the better.

PS: No matter how much you get the dog to listen/respect you as the alpha male, your mrs will still spoil it and treat it like a bloody baby.

In my household that will be the other way round haha !!!
