you'd think that Man City would learn from their city rivals that you should stick by your manager after a bad year! silly decision

The club's fault for buying him some shocking players.

It's never easy to build on a season if you're only transfers are players that wouldn't even get in the match 18.

Well then he needs to look at why he took the job if he doesn't have control.

His squad is still stronger than Uniteds and should never be so far behind and losing a cup final to Wigan happens but still unacceptable. He needs replacing.

It's the model these days. Managers at top clubs don't have control over the transfer dealings. He was very vocal in the summer about this.

I think he submitted a list of players he was interested in and the board worked their way through the list.

It's how teams like West Brom work and I'm fairly sure that Spurs and Chelsea have similar structures in place nowadays.

I do think he has underachieved these past two years, with the squad he had he should have won the prem by more than goal difference last year and should realistically have won it again this year but still, I can't see how the board can blame him if they failed to bring any really top class players in during the summer.

I still think his current squad should have won the league. The fact they are so far behind is shocking.
And losing the final to stole clearly can't motivate the players.

No surprise for me. I like Mancini as a person, but the amount of money he's spent/wasted since winning the Premiership on average players like Rodwell and Javi Garcia, plus not being able to control/get the best out of Balotelli, failing to defend the title, getting knocked out of Europe early and losing the final to Wigan, meaning they've won no silverware at all this season meant his sacking was inevitable in my opinion.

It's not the fact he failed to win anything this season, it's the way his team failed to compete. Mancini has spent more money this season but his team has gone backwards. 13 points behind Man Utd, failing to win a single game in Europe and losing the final to Wigan. How much is Wigan's squad worth compared to Man City's? At the end of the day, it's a results business and losing the FA Cup to a team like Wigan, considering the hundreds of millions difference between the squads is inexcusable.

I was only saying in work today that I could see Mancini getting the sack. Thought they would at least wait until the end of the season though...

Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini is the 1/3 favourite with Sky Bet to be the next Manchester City manager after Roberto Mancini's sacking was confirmed late on Monday night.

The Chilean has denied a deal is already in place for him to take the City job but speculation is rife he will be the man arriving at the Etihad Stadium.

"Today, I deny I am going to be the new manager of Manchester City," Pellegrini told a press conference on Sunday night.

"I have not signed an agreement with anyone, not with Manchester City, not with Roma, not with Napoli, not with PSG, not with any of the clubs who have been mentioned.

"In the next few days I hope to clarify a bit what the future will be here in the club."

Jose Mourinho is next in the betting at 7/1 and the Real Madrid chief was getting a lot of attention in the market before Mancini's departure was officially confirmed.

Carlo Ancelotti is available at 8/1 to make a return to the Premier League.

The PSG coach has recently been linked with Mourinho's job at Real Madrid, with his current's club's president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, claiming an approach has been rejected.
