Lennon Is Looking Good For Everton Job

Fri May 10, 2013 6:00 pm

NEIL LENNON was last night installed as odds-on bookies’ favourite to replace Davie Moyes at Everton.

Record Sport understands there has been no contact between Everton and Lennon but bookmaker William Hill have slashed their odds on the Celtic boss taking over at Goodison after a string of monster bets were placed.

The Northern Irishman is now 4-5 to replace Manchester United-bound Moyes with Wigan boss Roberto Martinez second favourite.

Hills shortened Lennon’s odds after huge punts were taken on the manager in Northern Ireland.

But Celtic striker Georgios Samaras is desperate for his manager to stay and insisted the club can eclipse this season’s success if they can keep hold of Lennon.

Players like Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama are also attracting interest from down south but the Greek striker said: “Other clubs will come and see our players, for sure.

“And teams will come to see the manager. But what they are going to do and what decisions they make are things I cannot answer. But I really believe in this team. We have a lot of young players and they can be really good players in Britain.

“They can play at a high level and if we stay the same team with the same manager, next season can be even better than this one.

“He knows the club really well and his football really well. He played at a high level with Celtic and won trophies here. He played Champions League and he knows how to approach the games.

“For a young team like us which had players who had no Champions League experience, he is the perfect man to give to them exactly what they need.

“He is key to our success and the players are key to the success.”

Celtic's Neil Lennon has moved to cool speculation linking him with the Everton managerial vacancy.

The 41-year-old has been linked with the hot seat following confirmation of David Moyes's impending switch to Manchester United.

Lennon said: "That's all it is, speculation. I've got a great support, group of players and I'm happy here.

"We're already looking at Champions League preparation and bringing in new players."

Wish MM would say something :(
