Everton FC would face £3m compensation bill to make Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay new manager
Everton FC would have to pay Cardiff City up to £3m if they want Malky Mackay to replace David Moyes as manager
The Bluebirds’ Championship-winning boss is still among the front runners for the Everton job following confirmation that David Moyes will succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright says he wants to appoint another Moyes-like figure and will begin the hunt for the new man straight away.
Wigan’s Roberto Martinez, Porto’s Vitor Pereira, Celtic’s’ Neil Lennon and Swansea City’s highly-rated boss Michael Laudrup are the others being touted as leading Everton contenders.
No official contact has been made with Cardiff over an approach for Mackay, but the Bluebirds boss is bound to be at the forefront of Everton’s thinking as they weigh up their options.
The work Mackay has done in two years at the helm with the Bluebirds has greatly impressed Everton’s directors.
However, Cardiff will be keen to ward off any move for the manager who has just taken the club into the Premier League, insisting Mackay still has unfinished business in Wales.
We understand a clause in Mackay’s contract, which runs until 2016, means hefty compensation of around £3million would have to be paid.
Mackay signed the extension to his Bluebirds deal just over a year ago,
Bookmakers Paddy Power and online firm bet365have placed Mackay second on a list of potential Everton candidates headed by Martinez.
The odds on Mackay becoming manager at Goodison Park were ranging between 8-1 and 20-1, while those on Laudrup ranged from 8-1 to 14-1.The speculation surrounding Mackay and Laudrup gathered in momentum yesterday afternoon when Manchester United announced Moyes would be joining them on a six-year contract.

Not worth letting him go for that
Malky's value to us will be made obvious through his hard work and guile next season
In Malky we STILL trust

Malky isn't second fav with Paddy Power. He's well down the list with Martinez fav followed by oneil, redknapp and Lennon and then a few others more

Malky is still learning his trade.
Maybe a season or two short in reaching a level for proper touting.
This next season with us is important for him as well as us.
If he can do a job -then he will step up to another level of managerial credibility.
All he has know is an image of a no nonsense hard worker.
Football not always easy on the eye.
predictable selections and substitutions.
conceeder of late goals.
We all know that this part of the game is forced by money and the championship requirements.
Now Malky has a chance to show what he is about.
Only then would a top club come in I think.

Tan could sack Malky by Christmas if we aren't doing well. I'd love to see Malky get the Everton job because he deserves the chance. Hope it doesn't happen though.

Malkys a bluebird, stop all the bullshit

I hope

Moyes came from preston who didn't achieve nothing, so if everton want malky they will go all out for him, I hope they find another manager though. Hope malkys here to stay

Malcolm is worth 3M all day long. Plus he has more experience than Moyes had when he got the Everton job.
Managers are way undervalued. Why pay 15m for 1/11th of the team but then scrimp on the man who dictates the way the entire team performs and plays. It doesn't make sense.
Level heads are hard to find in Football but Malcolm is a veritable spirit level.

WHAAAAATT?? This is surely a wind-up

The problem would arise if Lennon left Celtic; then that may well be a job Malky would not resist.

Interesting point, & the problem for us would be that not only Malky, but all his back room staff leaving as well.
Personally, i think Martinez is the man they want. We shall see!

Heard its pretty much done, Malky to Everton. Hardly surprising given what he did with Moyes.
Fri May 10, 2013 10:15 am
Short odds on Lennon for the job. Malky's odds are between 6/1 and 20/1 so very much an outsider.

I'd love our best manager to get the Everton job rather be sacked by the maniacal Tan in six months time. I don't see how that is silly.

Fellaini and Baines then he can go.

Joke, but they can still give us Fellaini and Baines.
