The red or blue re brand debate and premiership survival?

Thu May 09, 2013 4:16 pm

I just had a thought about the red/blue debate and re branding..
I think if we stayed in blue it would be all good for tradition but in the long term I think we would just end up like Everton not being able to spend a lot of money and would end up getting relegated some time, BUT now we have been re branded and are playing in Red I truly believe this is a master stroke by VT and it will in the long term attract more interest from Asian and be a more profitable business (football club) and allowing cardiff city football club to grow and get better surviving in the premiership for a long time and then who knows where we could end up?
What I'm getting at is we have more potential as a football club being red than blue, bear in mind the potential investment from people like Peter lim and china aswell.VT ain't stupid I hope I'm right,do you agree?

I want this club to succeed, whether it be blue or red, I'm not a glory fan and would support us in League One of course, but this club has real potential.

Yeh I know what your saying its not all about glory and I'd support cardiff no matter what league they were in, but when you play any sport or football you aim to win and have success and what I'm getting at is i think we got a much better chance to win and have success in the long term being red than blue.

No 'Master Stroke' mate. Simply the wants and desires of a very rich man who has (a) put a LOT of money into a club who were near to extinction 3 or 4 short years ago, and (b) delivered on ALL his promises in the process (debt to equity to be sorted as soon as the Langston saga is over) :ayatollah:

Being realistic (rather than nostalgic and/or blinkered) although I would prefer to have remained BLUE I understand Vincent Tan's thinking and reluctantly accept that if this great club really wants to compete at the next level then his reasons for the change to RED have to be appreciated...if for no other reason than the financial benefits playing in 'lucky' red might have in the emerging Eastern markets ;)

We are (like all other successful clubs) now effectively a 'franchise' and that, sadly, is the 'modern' way. If that were not the case, then we would still have LOCAL owners and 99% of our playing staff would be from Cardiff and the surrounding areas. But they are not. In reality, we have ONE (Craig Bellamy) and even he had a multitude of 'personal' reasons for coming home this season (and I am glad he did) ;)

We are now in an international market (particularly as members of the elite Premeir League) and Vincent Tan has both the vision and means to take us even further IF HE SO CHOOSES, so it is a simple choice...RELUCTANTLY accept the RED or keep the BLUE and remain 2nd class citizens in the football world ;)

For me, I find the curent ambition of Cardiff City FC exciting. I have waited far too many years for a tilt at the 'big league' and that dream is now a reality. I am onboard and I am in it for the long-haul (as I always have been) :ayatollah:

Some (not as many as their vocal utterings would have you believe) will say that makes me 'blinkered' or 'dismissive' of our heritage but that is not the case. I am merely a life-long supporter of Cardiff City FC who has seen lots of 'highs' and far too many 'lows' and I am ecstatic that we finally have someone who has put their money where their mouth is and DELIVERED THE DREAM not just for Cardiff City FC but for ITS LONG-SUFFERING LOYAL SUPPORTERS TOO! :ayatollah:

I'd happily take blue and be in Everton's position.

And the colour of the club makes no difference to any club's success.

JonCCFC, you make a good point (remembering that Everton have been in the top division for many many years, so are well established) :ayatollah:

However (and this is only my opinion) unfortunately 'playing in red' makes a huge difference to Cardiff City FC simply because of the Tan factor ;)

Sad but true :(

I agree that Tan's investment has without a doubt made a huge difference on the pitch, I just don't believe it was worth the changes

If everything goes to plan I think you will see the differance in a few years, without tan and his ideas and investments for the club we wouldn't be able to pursue the dream. If we stayed in blue I'm not saying we wouldn't be able to get up to the premiership but in the long term I think because we haven't got the backing from someone like VT then we would probably end up back in the championship. At the moment with VT on board and in red we stand a much better chance of staying there for good

Thanks, mate. I always try to respect the views of others and the vast majority accept the red (albeit reluctantly) because they understand the simple economics of the 'new' football world :ayatollah:

If we (as fans or as a club) have ANY real ambition we should be grateful Vincent Tan (a non-footballing man before he came here remember) got involved with us at a time when others were happy enough to see us go to the wall :(

It baffles me that some (many of who have jumped on a bandwagon they little understand) cannot see the wood for the trees on this particular matter but hey, that's for them (as the americans would say) to go figure ;) :ayatollah:

I've said many, many times that our identity comes before success for me. I'd much rather be in blue in the Championship or any other league for that matter than stay in the Premier League in red. This isn't the real Cardiff City that I grew up to love and the hope of reverting back to blue/white/yellow is keeping me going. :ayatollah:
