Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay installed as leading candidate to succeed Everton boss David Moyes

Bookmakers have made Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay one of the favourites to succeed Everton boss David Moyes if he joins Manchester United FC.

Cardiff City's Championship winning manager Malky Mackay has been installed as one of the leading favourites for the Everton job if David Moyes succeeds Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Some bookmakers reacted to the news that Moyes looks nailed on for the Old Trafford post by placing fellow Scot Mackay second on their list for the potentially vacant Goodison Park hot-seat.

The speculation was fuelled further by reports in the north west suggesting the Everton board have been hugely impressed by the job the 41-year-old has done in the Welsh capital.

Like Moyes, Mackay is viewed as a man who can deliver success without spending vast sums of money in the process.

Since arriving from Watford two years ago, Mackay has guided the Bluebirds to a Carling Cup Final, where they narrowly lost out to Everton’s city rivals Liverpool, a play-off place... and then the Championship title.

The City boss was ranked at 10-1 in a group of potential Everton candidates drawn up by Paddy Power. The list was headed by Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez, followed by Mackay in second place, Celtic’s Neil Lennon.in third and then Brighton’s boss Gus Poyet.

Online bookmakers bet365 also placed Mackay second on their list, while others had him in the top four.

The Bluebirds board will be keen to ward off any Everton interest in Mackay as he prepares for the Premier League season which starts in August.

But one bookmaker is already even naming odds on who might replace Mackay in the Welsh capital.

According to Victor Chandler, former Wales manager Mark Hughes is joint favourite with Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League winning chief Roberto Di Matteo.

WalesOnline comment: Don't go Malky
It is because of the very job he has done with Cardiff City that Malky Mackay finds himself being so heavily linked with the Everton job. The first of many, no doubt. Such is the nature of being a roaring success in football.

Malky, we have absolutely no doubts whatsoever, is a top, top manager in the making who will one day boss one of the biggest clubs in the land. But, for the time being, he has unfinished business in the Welsh capital. Already an idol to the Cardiff public, his stock can rise even further by helping the Bluebirds stabilise in the Premier League. Having worked painstakingly to get City over the promotion line, we’re sure Malky will want to see the job through.

Whatever the bookmakers may think.

Lets hope Martinez isn't as loyal to Wigan as he's been in the past....

Malky has unfinished business at CCFC. He's a football man. The Everton job has come a year or two too soon.

Big task for him if he goes to everton.. Club looking for a top4 finnish on a shoestring budget. All he has to do with us, is keep us in the premier league in our first season with a decent transfer budget! Still a difficult job I know, but a task he's well capable of doing, all we are looking for is progress... Everton are looking for miracles

If you fancy an outside gamble, get your money on Slaven Bilic

He's still 25/1 with most bookmakers, although for some reason he's down to 7/1 with Bet Victor

Lets be fair he left Watford when we came calling !
Why wouldn't he leave us for Everton ?
Big jobs don't come along often sometimes you have to take it no matter how much you like a club unfortunately !
Hope he doesn't go but wouldn't blame him if he did :?

As said above, Everton would be a side step for Malky. They were a great club once, but the last 15 or more years, mediocre in comparison. How can you compare when he left Watford to leaving us now? Haha

This is his club for years to come

Bollocks! Everton are a much bigger club. They come calling he'll find it hard to resist. Can't see them wanting him myself but if he is ambitious as I think he is then he'll go.

Everton, massive club, they will have money to spend if Fellani goes to Man Utd for £25 million, put that together with Evertons normal £15 million per season and the new manager may have upwards of £40 million at his disposal, if Everton come calling then I think Malky will go, big jobs don't come about every year, then for us I would like to see us go for Roberto De Matteo, I think he would be a class act for us in the PL :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah: :malky:

Of course he's ambitious. With a club moving forward at a rate of knots like us. He's on the cusp of something special with Wales number one. He wouldn't go even if he was offered their job

Everton isn't a side step they are a much much much much bigger club then us.

He won't go there though why would he leave here when everything he asks for he gets. New training ground and stadium expansion coming as well.

He's put too much hard work in here to just walk away now.

Relax Malky is going nowhere as David Moyes will not be taking over from Fergie, David Moyes is decent manager but is nowhere near proven or high profile enough to join Manchester United ,Expect the Red Devils to go for a European top notch Manager to succeed Sir Alec.
And as for the bookies well expect this type of propaganda as these soundbites and hype drum up plenty of business relating to healthy profits for the likes of Ladbrokes, Corals, Betfred, etc since when have betting orginizations become a charities willing to doll out this type of information that would cost them a load of spondolees.

Come off it mate, Everton are a massive club. Any young manager would want to try his luck at a club with the history Everton has.

Probably a year or two early for him, but I can guarantee if he does well in his first year in the Premier league then he will get courted by bigger clubs.

I'm not saying we're anywhere near the size of Everton FC.

But you've echoed my points with your second paragraph. I expect Everton to challenge the top 3 one day again, but the club definitely needs a overhaul. Any veteran Evertonian will tell you that. Before Alex ferguson took over United, Everton had more titles than them. The Everton I know aren't happy that Moyes is leaving when the majority are accepting that he's going to a bigger club. The dyed in the wool on the Gwladys street end believe they should be as big as United, but nowadays are only as big as Stoke

I think Everton have hit their ceiling to be honest.

I can't see a day anytime soon where they are a better team than Man United, Man City, Chelsea or Arsenal. They have been fighting above their weight for years with a tiny budget and often having sold their better players during the summer months. Yes Malky would make more money and have European football, but I can't see Everton improving a whole lot.

On the other hand, at Cardiff he has made a name for himself and has already written his chapter in our history books. To walk away from this project without managing a single game for us in the Premiership would be criminal.

As much as I hope I'm wrong, I think he'd go. It's a step up but as I said in a previous thread, he needs at least another two years in the prem.

If he goes, Roberto di Matteo please.

Wasn't he offered the Norwich City job before Hughton got it? I'm sure I read it somewhere that he was but he felt he wasn't ready and wanted to do his job with us. Can't see him leaving us, we'll probably have the same if not more money to spend them then, and players like fellaini, baines and possibly a few others may leave is moyes goes, why would he do another re-building job?

The Daily Mirror is saying that Laudrup is top of Evertons wish list;

Another manager for Huw The Spew to sell that's more believeable to me than Malkay going to Everton.

Looks like my mistake regarding Moyes but i have to admit like most people on here i am surprised as i believe Everton is his Stndard ,Manchester Utd will do well under him initially as he will inherit a very good team but i still think he is nowhere near the best that is out there.
As for Malky at this moment in time i feel sure Everton is aa step to much :o .

I did read it, you said moving from Cardiff to Everton was a side step, which I rightly told you was a ridiculous statement. You aren't going to back track on two threads in a row are you? (You still haven't answered on the other thread btw).

I have absolutely no need to email annis regarding this. However you threatening to spam my email address is not on and will continue to bring it up with the owner of the site. Isn't it time you stop crying about roath magic however? Nearly all of your posts are directed at him and you use your panic button as soon as you are proved wrong.

Ill leave the vile language to you. Have a great day now.
