Pull of the Premier League bigger than Egg.

Wed May 08, 2013 7:09 am

This topic has been subject to debate recently "Would the capitals appearence in the Premier League spell the end of the Egg"
Whilst I don't think it will pop the Six nations bubble so to speak, it will attract many who pay top dollar to watch the egg, to suddenly watch top dollar Elite Football.
A certain wealthy individual I know personally who over the past 20+ years has been on countless tours to the Southern Hemisphere to watch Wales and the Lions(and will be in Oz this tour)as well as having a pricey ticket at the Millenium Stadium, who has shown no knowledgeable interest in the city beforehand.
Just purchased a season ticket.

Cue the anti plastic brigade!!!

But for me this shows a small potential of a very significant power swing .

Long may that continue.

Bang on mate.

I do wonder how places like Leicester manage to do both though?? Worth looking at their model maybe?

Region level yes, but not when Wales are playing, who knows what the financial impact will have, I would have thought over the whole season CCFC will generate more income, but we need to make people feel welcome in our City, keep the banter and intimidation within the stadium, I hope our fans will give visiting supporters a warm welcome so they will want to return for a weekend break with their partners, we have some of the best pubs and resteraunts in the country; the new Saint Davids shopping complex is up there with the best City's in the UK.

We should have fall out from visiting supporters that travel down West has well, win win win for our great City.

Hasn't Leicester got a bigger population than cardiff?

The brainstorm who decided it would be a good idea to make rugby in wales regional is the one that's responsible for killing rugby in wales. The success of cardiff and swansea football clubs got nothing to do with it. What they failed to realise when turning rugby into regions in wales is just how tribal a country wales is. I mean, you only have to look at how many different welsh accents there are in wales (a small country of less than 3million) to realise that! Go 10 minutes up the road from cardiff into newport and already the accent changes. Before, you had all the rivalries in rugby I.e Bridgend, swansea llanelli, neath, all wanted to beat eachother and be the top team in that area, then you had newport, pontypridd, pontypool ebbw vale etc who all hated eachother! And everyone wanted to beat cardiff lol it brought the fans out because they felt pride in their local clubs. Going regional has helped the national team because our top players are not so spread out.. they play together more and get used to eachother. That's why we've had a fair bit of success at international level over the last decade! But as for the fans? Well they just don't feel the connection anymore.. Their identity has been taken away from them, and that's why crowds are so low now. Also, the celtic league our regions now compete in is an absolute farce. The irish teams use it as warmup games for the Heineken cup. The welsh regions use it as a shop window to sell our players to French clubs. The italian teams are there to just make up the numbers. And the scotish teams..well, there scotish Lol there's no relegation, and qualifying for the Heineken cup through it is a formality every year, and even when our regions do qualify for the Heineken cup, the financial gain for the teams is shit because the french and english clubs get most of the money from it. Me personally hope they find a way to stop the slide and get club rugby back on its feet in wales. There's enough room for both of us in this country and I'd like to see both sports flourish
