Am I the only one wondering if giving Kev a new contract is a mistake. Yes he's a club legend but I'm not convinced he's premiership at all.

Great servant to our Club

But def in my opinion no where near good enough for next season, really hope I am wrong.

He's going to be back up.
He can do a job when asked.

We still need a squad for the league, plus cup games, he wont play every game, but he's good to come in and versatile .

I think it's probably a show of gratitude from the club. Realistically he's going to be third choice right back come August. On the other hand though, since he was called upon to come back into the side he hasn't let us down once. I hope he proves us all wrong

you wont know if hes good enough until given a chance, and im glad he's been given one!... he's Mr Cardiff

He won't let anyone down tony I can assure you every cross will hit the middle row of the stand without fail.i hope I'm proved wrong but just see it as a sentimental signing.

His defensive ability is top half Premier League in my opinion and that's enough for me to ignore the fact that he misplaces a few passes each game, literally couldn't be happier that he's been offered a new contract and he'd be one of the first names on the teamsheet for me.
Tue May 07, 2013 9:17 pm
Personally I think this sends exactly the right message.
Be loyal to the club. Always give 110% and you will be rewarded.
Future players will see this and take note that we are a club that will reward those players who where the shirt with pride and are not out for their own personal gain (thinking of QPR here)

Agree only issue is his distribution and Kev have a shot now and again.

Big game player who is happy to be a squad player in the Premier League and ALWAYS delivers when it matters. I am relieved he is staying and think he will be a cracking back up player to have.
Tue May 07, 2013 9:30 pm
We will sign a new RB and Connally will prob be ahead of him at RB as well.
It's a no brainier to have a player like Kev who can play across the back 4 and gives 110% as back up to the back up. He is settled here and most likely happy to be a bit part player.

I 100% agree with AA! He's not good enough for Premiership, neither is Hudson or Turner, jury out on Taylor. Kevin has that Achilles heal of being able to pass ten yards accurately under a little pressure. I hope this is not the shape of things to come, at best he's a bench warmer. We'll do little in the premier with hard workers alone, they'll get passed to death.

McNaughton has been a great servant for Cardiff City but sentiment should play no part in the decision to offer him a new contract. In my opinion he gives away possession much too easily and in the Premier League we will be punished much more often by the opposition if we do so.

Agree. Will do a job on Zaha, as usual.
Distribution is poor. but 1005 committed and will get stuck in at every opportunity. His pace could be important.

Yer he is a great guy on and off the field,I have spoken to him many times up the Vale . He has great speed but his final balls are not of the quality we need in the prem. I think anyone can see the way he celebrated after the Charlton game that he is a true Blue Cardiff Player. It would be great to see him go up another gear and make it in the prem for us.

I was against awarding Kev a new contract when this first came up a while back, however, what has been evident over the last few weeks, is how important the team spirit is to the manager and his team. This is no more, evidenced, than through the various celebrations and outpouring of emotion from Kev in particular. Coupled with the fact that he has played well over the last few games, not let anyone down. So, on balance, I have changed my mind and agree that he is a valuable squad member. One thing that has always been there with Kev, is that when he comes back in following a period out of the team, he slots back in comfortably, that is a good asset to have as a third choice.

I think everyone agrees that Kev plays with his heart on his sleeve and gives 100% every game, but my main concern, not only with Kev but all our defenders apart from Taylor, is their inability to pass a short ball to feet, if we intend staying in the PL I don't think it will be achieved by hitting long balls, we must build from the back and get out wide, and also to see a pass, such has Kimbo's which led to Campbal's goal, otherwise I think we are in for a long hard season.
Sentement shouldn't come into it about offering players contracts, cast your mind back when Andrew Legg was released, there was uproar, I think the decision then was right, but I am sure MM knows the ones who have a chance of making it, and it will be his decision ultimatly on who stays or goes, us fans have to accept that.
Wed May 08, 2013 11:23 am
He is too slow for the premiership, think we need younger backup
Wed May 08, 2013 11:26 am
If this is a sign of things to come god help us next season, imo hes not up to it, if everyone employed friends or somebody because there a nice person whos been with them for years yet they become not good enough over time at there job this country would be even more fucked than it already is

We'll need a good squad next year with PL, FA cup and League cup.
Super-Kev, even if he's only a bit part player is worth a 2 year deal as we know what we are getting for the wage.
Wed May 08, 2013 6:26 pm
Not good enough to start, but I reckon he'll surprise people if and when he's called upon. We still need two more full backs, but Kev - being able to play left right and centre when called upon - will save our bacon at least once next season. He'll probably cock something up as well, but I'd rather him than some QPR style overpriced flop.
On that note, his wages are likely a fraction of what we'll be offering new players, so a no brainer in my opinion.
That's what my brain says, but I can't lie, I think my heart would have won the argument regardless. Utter Cardiff legend - the silver fox!
