Wolves have sacked Dean Saunders following the club's relegation from the Championship this season.

A club statement read: "Manager Dean Saunders has been informed by Wolves that his contract is to be terminated.

"The decision has been made following confirmation of Wolves’ relegation to npower League One.

"Assistant Manager Brian Carey will also be leaving the club.

"Wolves have now begun a recruitment process, which, in conjunction with the Board, will be managed by Head of Football Development & Recruitment Kevin Thelwell.

"The club will now take as long as is necessary to make this crucial appointment and there will be no publicly communicated timescales.

"Wolves would like to thank Dean and Brian for their efforts in what has been a very difficult period for everyone, and wish them both the very best for the future.

"The club will be making no further comment at this stage."

Even if he managed to keep them up I still think he would have got his marching orders. With them getting relegated, he had no chance of keeping his job. I like saunders, seems a decent bloke, bit of a character, but a poor choice of manager by wolves imo. Bet he gets a decent payout though

Who will they get to replace him in league one who is better than him ?
4 managers in 14 months no self respecting manager will risk his reputation with a board that is trigger happy like wolves ?
I'd pick Saunders over most of the managers touted as possible replacements in the bookies , he knows the league and has a decent record in it with Doncaster , he knows the players and who needs to go to settle the team down , they will lose a lot of players in the summer I think it's a bad decision tbh
It was the players not the manager he only had 4 months didn't he and no money to spend they also had the second highest wage salary in the championship this year with £25 mill :o

An absolute disgrace (and not just because Deano is Welsh) :(

Jez Moxey simply has to be the most inept of all 'Chief Executives' in the footballing world and is obviously leading Steve Morgan (usually seen as being one of the better owners in football) a merry dance

Shame on you Wolves, shame on you Steve Morgan and (most of all) shame on you Jez 'anti-Cardiff City' Moxey

May your ears turn into arseholes and shit down your neck!

Is that git Moxey still in charge? If so he's getting everything he deserves. :laughing5:

two ways of looking at it, they were also doing better in the league before he took over. To be fair a club like Wolves shouldnt have gone down, and Saunders was there long enough to stop it, so not a massive surprise he has gone.

Didn't he take over with 20odd games of the season to go though? I agree that he could have done a decent job with them in league 1, but that wasn't the aim for wolves when they hired him.. They were no doubt looking for at least a playoff position. That's why I say it was a poor choice by wolves. Imo they were never going to challenge for promotion with dean saunders at the helm... Didn't think they would get relegated though  like you say though, 4managers in 14months, the owners brought all this on themselves

Kenny jacket has just become available. He would do a good job for them, knows how to get out of league 1 and knows how to compete in the championship

Saunders had more than enough time to put it right, and had decent players at his disposal so he cant grumble.
